Gunpowder Lodge - Kingsville

On 7/10/2024, I went to a restaurant for lunch with my friend, her daughter, and my granddaughter. I ordered the meatloaf, while my granddaughter had the chicken tenders. We both had soda to drink, and the food was delicious. The service from the waitress was excellent. Our bill came to approximately $40.24 before the tip and tax. I overestimated the cost of the sodas at $3.00 each and left a $10.00 tip for the waitress separately from my friend. However, when I checked my bank statement on 7/24/24, I noticed I was charged $148.43 for my bill. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager, who said he would investigate and call me back. As of 8/26/2024, I have not received a call back despite trying to reach out to the restaurant multiple times. I have now filed a dispute with my bank and explained the correct amount based on the online menu. I will receive a full refund, pay cash for the correct amount, and not leave a tip. I recommend paying cash instead of using a card to avoid similar issues.

In my honest opinion, the food at this restaurant was good and flavorful, but the prices were quite high. I have had equally good food at other places for ten dollars less. The crab pretzel was small for $17, which I found to be overpriced. The steak dinners and crab cakes were tasty, but the New York strips were a bit fatty and overcooked. Despite this, the flavors were still excellent. The prices may be higher because the restaurant is located by the river, and they may take advantage of hungry swimmers willing to pay anything for a meal. The drinks were good, but the desserts were disappointing, with my cookies being overdone. The service was excellent, and the outdoor seating area was nice. My son enjoyed the playground, although I felt that the safety standards could be improved. I may consider returning for the delicious food and good service, but the high prices will likely prevent me from coming back. I believe I can find similar meals with filet mignon and better desserts for the same price elsewhere.

I was pleasantly surprised when dining at this restaurant. There were five of us and only two people ordered the same meal, but we all found our dishes to be excellent.

Sunday brunch is outstanding. Such a fresh selection. The bartender, Amy, was amazing. It's definitely a hidden gem.

My first time here, and probably my last. Looks like a cool place from the outside, with a location next to the Gunpowder River. But you can't see the river from the restaurant, and the atmosphere inside was very unpleasant. Unattractive and low class, and so loud you can't have a conversation.
