We were then picked up and transported from Rica to the Snow Hotel later that evening. Upon arrival, we checked in our bags at their secured room and the woman at the front desk kindly offered us the use of their sauna and lounge. Despite not being paying guests yet, they graciously extended this hospitality to us. They also provided helpful information about our transportation arrangements for the following day. The lounge had a large super-automatic coffee machine and comfortable couches. Although I did not see the rooms or stay overnight, I would consider staying at Rica if I ever return to Kirkenes, based on the excellent treatment we received during our brief visit.
Although we did not stay at this hotel, we were impressed with their hospitality as they allowed us to store our luggage while we stayed at the Snow Hotel nearby. They graciously offered to let us use their saunas, bathrooms, lounge area, and coffee bar even though we were not paying guests. This generosity deserves a positive review. The rooms appear clean and the restaurant seemed bustling. If you are in need of accommodations in the area, it is definitely worth checking out this place!
This nicely appointed motel in the heart of downtown Kirkenes is a gem . After 7 days at sea, it was a welcome respite, if only for one day. Everyone at the hotel was nice and helpful. The room was very clean with lots of natural light due to large windows in the room. Our view was of a little open space area to the left of the hotel in which someone had carved a beautiful ice sculpture that was lit up at night. The bathroom has a full bath tub ! This is not always so common so enjoy! The breakfast was delicious and with so many options everyone can find something they like to eat! Reception was cozy and the sitting area next to the bar comfortable! Enjoy a Mack pilsner and sit back and have a visit. We ate out at the local Asiatic Market which has a small restaurant and the spring rolls were so yummy! The Italian place in town had great pizza! Give it a try! The downtown shopping is adorable and has everything you'd ever need! I truly hope to be back to stay!!!
The hotel is situated in the middle of town that 's how I experienced it. We went for many walks to restaurants (good food, friendly people) and on one of the walks I suddenly looked at the many stores and decorated windows with 'Christmas eyes ' and started shopping. It was the middle of November. I found many unique gifts at reasonable prices. We walked to the 'hill with the Russian statue ' (on the recommendation of the hotel clerk) to witness the Northern lights! What an experience. We walked to the town museum to find a great story told of the people who lived there during WWII. What a revelation! We walked down to the harbour to have a mid afternoon snack at the fancy hotel. It was just a wonderful experience. On the way we passed by the old fashioned church. The Dining room of the Scandia was under reconstruction so we were served a very varied buffet, or smørgåsbord in the cozy lounge/meeting room for breakfast and dinner. The waitstaff was very accommodating. Would love to go see it now that it is renovated. The (bed)room was nicely appointed and cozy in it 's Nordic style; of course with in room bath.
We found Scandik Hotel Kirkenes to be a very good hotel to stay at. The staff was service-friendly and efficient. The food was also very good!
