Our dinner at the Taverne on Woodlake was spectacular. Beautiful restaurant with a nice view of the lake. Service was friendly, professional and spot on Angela was perfect in every way, from timing to suggestions, it was a pleasure being her guests! Food was outstanding started with the tuna poke which was super fresh and tasty. My husband's filet was tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. I chose the single pork chop with grits and licked the plate clean. The kitchen crew knows how to use a wood-fired oven and create interesting and harmonious food. Highly recommend!!
We came for lunch. Saturdays and Sundays are brunch days until 4 pm, so there were mostly breakfast items on the menu. Ordered a 12 **** Mary that tasted funny. I drank it but wouldn't order it again. Ordered a breakfast pizza with eggs. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. Wood-fired pizza ovens burn the bottom of the pizza, and for some reason I don't care for the taste of burned crust. The ceiling light blazing down on me made me feel like I needed a baseball cap with a brim, found myself squinting from the spotlight effect. Eventually moved to get out from under it. Used the bathroom and found my shoes sticking to the floor. The faucet splashes all over the counter, so the counter was covered in water from previous users. Finally, found myself squirming a bit in the chair because the front edge poked into the back of my legs.
A delicious and classy place to stop for dinner. The side of brussels sprouts were to die for. My husband shared some of his meal, the pork chop with grits. Oh my gosh! It was incredible and I don't even like pork chops! We loved the live music and would dine again to hear artists play.
This was a most mediocre meal. The drinks were lovely (martini and red wine) and the staff adequate, but I shared an overcooked and under seasoned pizza as well as an overdressed salad that claimed to have roasted tomatoes (hint: they were not blistered and ice cold). Additionally, as seems to be the trend in the lovely village of Kohler, the food was very over-priced and not at all worthwhile. I CANNOT recommend this establishment.
