Contribuisci feedbackFlavor explosion! What a broth on original. I added garlic and cabbage along with thin noodles. I loved the taste. I wish it had more protein though. Next time I'll double up on the pork. I had #1 level of spicy and it was just right. Not too spicy but had nice kick.
Excellent ramen! Definitely one of the better ones I 've had! Their menu is simple and straightforward: circle your preference for broth and richness, toppings, meats, noodle texture, etc. There are four broths, all of which are tonkotsu (pork bone)-based. I opted for the signature 'Butao ' tonkotsu flavor, as I enjoy my ramen unadulterated. However, for the adventurer, there are squid-ink, spicy miso, and olive oil basil tonkotsu broths as well. Butao Ramen is located at the end of Minden Ave, so if you 're on the correct street, it 's easy to locate this small and cozy restaurant. Service is quick and friendly, and if Hong Kong 's hot and humid weather isn 't enough for you, this place gets pretty warm too, especially at the bar seating by the open kitchen. If I revisit Hong Kong, I 'd pay Butao Ramen another visit.
A hole in the wall type of joint. But don't let that fool you. Their Ramen is exceptional and one of the best I've had. This was my first meal after landing in Hong Kong and I can say it definitely was one of my favorite ones I had there. Our waiter hardly spoke any English, but with whatever English he could muster up he explained the ordering process well and guided us through the choices available. Unfortunately we didn't know that they don't accept credit card and we were short of cash by $6 HKD. The waiter was amazing and said that it's ok and that should not be a problem. Was blown away by that kind of service. Definitely go try a Ramen there. You'd be really happy you did. And yeah carry some cash on you when you go there. Cheers !!
The black king was great, with the ink giving the broth a distinctive taste. The pork belly was thinly sliced and the noodles were not too chewy. The customizations available were plentiful.
Holy ramen goodness, where is the secret six star button Yelp! I will be the first to admit I am a ramen addict and Butao Ramen absolutely kills the ramen game! Usually I make a rule that I will not break while traveling, which is never to hit the same restaurant multiple times in one trip. This is not to say that those particular dining experiences were not great, but there are usually so many great restaurants around the world, so exploring is key to me. Butao Ramen threw that rule out the window as I visited it three nights in a row to taste as much of their delish ramen as possible. Finding Butao may be difficult for some as it is tucked away in an alley in the very far corner, but it is well worth the journey. Typical greeting from the staff and quick seating, but as with many HK joints, expect to share the table. The menu is pretty straight forward, choose your broth type, oil type, eggs, garlic, spice level, etc. They also offer an extra part of the order which allows you to really load up if you are hungry, but trust me, the bowl of ramen is pretty large by itself. Pricing is very affordable, under 14 depending on the extras you add of course. With the three separate visits, I grabbed the top choices by the staff (Butao, Red King, and Black King). All of them were splendid, but if I really had to make a choice, I 'd go with the spicey red king every friggin night. The mix of spices, balanced broth, tender meat, noodle consistently has my mouth watering right now... FYI, no credit cards, but honestly if you have done your research prior to your HK visit, you know HK is not a card friendly city. So, in summary Butao Ramen is one of the better ramen joints I have visited (The other being near me thankfully), but do not miss out of the experience, especially if you are in the Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood.
