I am not sure if we should have asked for a grilled Haxen (pork knuckle) because the one we got was boiled and didn't have any crackling so be sure to ask before ordering.Great German atmosphere and enjoyed our meal here.
We visited here as we wanted to try some traditional German food. Very varied and large menu to chose from. Great food at very reasonable prices.
We went to 3 pubs during our visit to Cologne and this place had the best tasting Kolsch in our opinion, and the fastest service. The food looked good, but we drank dinner ;)
Päffge is a brewery and beer house and their own Kölsch is the one they have. Fortunately it is very good. Our waiter was accomodating, friendly and efficient. Food was excellent. Traditional German/European cuisine. And when we visited late in June, a speciality of the region: the white aspargus, was available. Delicious! The restaurant is spacious, and have a garden as well as many tables inside. We will most definitely come back!
Large friendly place that has a more authentic atmosphere than the bierhauses located in the Altstadt part of Cologne. The kolsch is served in traditional 20cl glasses that keep magically appearing and the tab is kept on your beermat. Choicewise it's kolsch or nothing. Food is typically German with some local specialities, English menu and vast portions. The 'sauerbraut' is one of these local specialities and for those of us of a certain age brings back memories of Vesta curry from the late 70s. This may or may not be a good Proustian moment. Contrary to some other reviews we found staff to be really helpful and good humoured. Probably not the place for a quiet romantic evening.
