Starts with a tour of the kitchen and an introduction to the amazing Malaysian ingredients (including some lesser known ones) and cooking techniques that will feature in the meal. You’re then ushered into the dining room overlooking the KL skyline for your 12 course meal. Every single course was a delight and the story behind the ingredients and techniques used was as enjoyable as the food. This would be an excellent experience for anyone but it’s an even more special experience for Malaysians nowhere else have I discovered local ingredients treated with so much creativity, respect and even humour. Worth every sen.
Excellent blend of local (but rare) ingredients over 12 courses. The chef took the time to walk us through their set up and how they manouver through different ingredients and cooking methods. Loved the cold clam soup, muscles platter and ice and weed. Amazing views of the skyscrapers of KL. Service top notch.
Great experience. I loved the concept built around Malaysian ingredients, materials and brigade. View on KL skyline is stunning. An experience I’ll never forget. Only remark is about wine pairing, where quality and choice could be improved
Dewakan is a 1-star Michelin ranked restaurant in the heart of KL. The location allows for a gorgeous view of the city skyline, with KLCC shining brightly right in front of you as you dine. The experience starts off with a unique moment where the chefs actually provide you with a tour of the kitchen, as it is the first place you enter when as you make your way through the restaurant. I really enjoyed this, seeing where all the food was prepared and learning about all of the local ingredients that would be incorporated into the meal. You’re then seated and begin the tasting menu. I believe the food is what will polarize visitors to this restaurant. While you can definitely appreciate the time and dedication put into each dish, and the plating varies beautifully, it’s certainly also a very experimental restaurant that tests out diverse flavor profiles. There were dishes that I absolutely loved (the octopus and the crayfish probably vie for my favourite dish), there were also some that didn’t work FOR ME. Still, I enjoyed trying it all, including the final dessert dish, which was a fudge coated fruit that had a taste similar to bleu cheese. My friend and I both agreed that the taste was so perplexing, we finished it all still unsure what to make of it! Throughout, the service was great. The staff will pause the meal delivery if you need a bathroom break and they explain all of the dishes quite well.
Super creative food using local ingredients. Have gone to multiple fine dining places but this place was probably the best at using local ingredients Great view and service! No complaints.
