Very nice old typical Bavarian restaurant in the upper city. Just a few yards walk from the underground parking. Very cozy atmosphere, top choice of Bavarian meal. Krensuppe was gorgeous, as well as the meat with kren sauce! My colleagues took Knusperschnitzel and the pork...leg, they were licking their fingers! Really a very good place to go and enjoy! After good meal a nice walk towards the castle is a must!
We decided to have lunch at the Zunftstube as we had parked opposite and it was raining and we did not want to walk far in the rain. It was a good decision as we had a very good traditional Bavarian meal. We ordered two...dishes of local sausages, a large salad and a very large pig's knuckle in horse radish sauce. With a drink each the total bill with a tip was EUR which was excellent value for money.
I ate at this restaurant on a tip from the tourist info office. It was a good tip. The stube has the look and feel an older establishment. It had several local groups eating and drinking. Even though I wasn't sitting with the groups I...was still asked to Prosst with them. The owner was incredibly accommodating speaking to me in English and assisting me with my broken German and told me a bit of the history of the stube. The food itself was excellent. I ordered a cordon bleu with brackkartoffeln (a typical fried franconian potatoe dish). The restaurant is small, suggest you try and get reservation before hand.
Ended up having dinner here twice on a threee day visit to Kulmbach. The friendfly ladyboss squeezed us in when we showed up without a reservation, and we got one of the best tables in the room. The next night we had to share a...table, though, even though we had booked one in advance. Zunft means guild ie a business, trade or craftspeople's association. The cozy room is decorated with historic artifsacts form this industrial town. Lead glass windows have interesting images of various craftsmen during medieval times. We ate beef in a horseradish gravy plus knödel the first night, a huge schnitzel the second. Very substantial meals in homecooking style.
