As it was our first visit though, we didn't know what was on offer so felt a little pressured to make a decision quickly. The country loaf, bagels and pastries were all delicious. The rye and caraway loaf was tasty but needed just a touch more caraway.
The bread was absolutely amazing! I love the combination of the seeds on top and it was a beautiful texture. I also had the pistachio scroll which I ate before I remembered to take a photo because it looked do good! It was quite unique. I didn't personally enjoy the flavour but the pastry was beautifully flaky and the ingredients were very interesting.
The country roll $1) is so delicious I munched on it plain. It's flavoursome and sour, chewy with a gentle crunch on the outside, pillowy on the inside. <br/ <br/ The ficlette $2) is even more sour and has a densely chewy crust that separates from the pillowy inside. <br/ <br/ Staff are friendly and helpful too. They had already sold out of all plain ficlettes by 11am on a Wednesday. Note the $10 Eftpos minimum!
Some of the best bread in Melbourne. Traditional crusty loaves with loads of flavour. Peacan and date buns are unbelievable as well as the country loaf. Go as early as possible.
Had brioche, plain fougasse and bagels. Have to say that the brioche was a clear winner! It was a nice balance of bitter and sweet with dark chocolate, orange rind and a sugar crust. Lovely soft interior and not too “eggy” or buttery- they got the balance bang on!
