Kennys ticks every box and then some. This is a place I had walked past many times thinking its only somewhere I could get a ham cheese sandwich. But my mind was blown. Do yourself a flavour and eat here. For $9.90 I get a pork baguette, can of coke and a custard puff.
I've only ever had the bahn mi here, but it's excellent. Tasty, fresh, reasonable price. Quick service. Recommended.
I thought it would be boring. I see Kenny 's all over the city. With a name like that, and Australia 's worship of the 'fresh cut sandwich, ' I reckoned it would be a cold-cuts-on-white-bread kinda place. So when I finally went into this one, I was pleasantly surprised. Call me an ignorant immigrant, but I didn 't know Kenny 's was like a mash-up of Vietnamese banh mi, the eternal Aussie salad roll and an international array of things to stuff inside. Way cool.<br/ <br/ The satay chicken sub I had was nothing to put in the Good Food Guide, but there was a decent portion of meat. It was made upon my order, the sub roll was warm, the veggies were abundant and fresh. The best thing was the bit of cabbagey slaw Kenny 's puts on, which keeps the sanger from being too dry. It 's a good deal for a non-junk meal at $10.20 for the sub and a 600-ml soda. I 've been meaning to go on a sandwich-heavy diet (not to lose weight, but for the health benefits of more salad with my bread products. I 'm fixin ' to make Kenny 's a part of that.
I recently spent three nights in Melbourne for work. I was staying at the Oaks on Collins Street . I’m not familiar with Melbourne and even though I get to Melbourne for work probably once or twice a year it’s not a city that I take much notice of because I’ve never had to live there. The same applies to Sydney. My breakfast options consisted of the hotel restaurant or walking around and finding a cafe. I normally wake up between 4.30 and 5 am and after a shower and shave I want to find an early breakfast. Just up the road from the hotel I came across Kenny’s Bakery Cafe . I knew nothing about the Kenny’s chain and just walked in and received a very warm welcome from the ladies inside. On the first morning I chose a bacon and egg roll and a flat white. The bread was amazing. Even though the eggs were fried soft (not runny) and the bacon was cooked through it was the bread that made me take notice. It wasn’t chewy, it was light fresh and melt in the mouth gorgeous.
I always come here for their Vietnamese pork roll which is delicious crispy French roll, pate, different types of ham, pickles, coriander and chilli, what is there not to love? This week I tried the crispy pork belly roll which is new on the menu. I was not disappointed!
