The best and cheapest fried rice in box hill. Good options Aesthetically, it's basic but who really cares.
All the classic Chinese comfort foods can be found at Wong’s Lucky Bar. For years, we’ve consistently visited this little joint located right next to the box hill tram stop. Whether it’s their crab noodles or hainan chicken rice, these classics never fail to hit the spot. My personal favourites are the combination hor fun and beef hor fun (flat noodles). These two dishes pack so much “wok hei” (aka flavour of the wok a unique charred kind of taste reminiscent of what you’d find in Asian street food stalls).Recently, under the circumstances of COVID-19, my family has taken to ordering takeout here almost on a weekly basis. The prices have remained surprisingly low and the food is consistently good.
This place continues to churn out reasonably delicious food at competitive prices. We usually order takeaway from here and while some of their dishes can be a bit too oily, they all taste consistently good. <br/ <br/ This time around, we had the fried chicken ribs, sweet and sour pork ribs and sambal water spinach. For a change, we also ordered the bitter melon with pork. This was surprisingly tasty. <br/ <br/ Situated slightly away from the busy part of Box Hill, it's easy enough to get to and service is always efficient. <br/ <br/ Previously:<br/ <br/ This is one of our regular (and reliable) restaurants in Boxhill. Absolutely no frills but reasonably priced dishes and large servings make up for that. <br/ Their chicken ribs are always well seasoned and expertly fried. Our all time favourite dish is their long beans with XO sauce. And a close second is their sweet and sour pork ribs. <br/ We have been getting take away from this joint for many years and the quality has been amazingly consistent. It's a sunny day every time I walk out of the restaurant!
Mud crab was great. We ordered only 2 serves of noodles with the crab (for the 4 of us) which I think was more than enough. (Any more will cause the crab dish to be too bland). Pipi with Chinese donut dish was flavoursome and it goes so well with rice. Seafood tofu clay pot was our next pick for the night.
