Beer Komachi - Kyoto

The restaurant itself is nice and cozy, but I was disappointed to find that it is listed on Happy Cow. We ordered a vegan pizza without cheese, which was just okay. Unfortunately, the fries are not vegan because they are cooked in a shared fryer with meat dishes. The tempura is also not vegan due to the shared fryer and non-vegan batter. There was no Tofu Pizza on the menu during our visit, but the edamame was vegan. Overall, I wish I had known that this was just a regular restaurant accommodating our needs, as I would have chosen a different place. I appreciate their efforts, however. We were pleasantly surprised to find a great selection of vegetarian options still available when we arrived later in the evening.

Hidden away from the main tourist spots, this restaurant offers a wide variety of craft beers and a mouthwatering menu. Highlights include seasonal vegetable tempura, tofu pizza (with tofu as the crust!), and grilled edamame.

Being a beer place; the beer is the star here and what a selection. Primarily local, with all Japanese taps, covering some rare and interesting drinks. Food is very good, with several vegetarian options on the regular menu and sometimes extra options among the specials. Spicy fries were a surprising standout extremely flavourful. Deep fried tofu was also very good; tofu replaces the pizza crust, for a very unique dish.

This is our absolute favorite bar restaurant in Kyoto. The food is top notch and they always have really good beer on tap. This is the place to get Japanese craft beer.
