Heroes Grill - La Crosse

The line took about 30 minutes to get everyone through, and they could have easily set up two serving lines—one on each side of the tables—to cut the wait time in half. It was a clear lack of common sense management! I was hugely disappointed and hope that Diggers considers a different venue for their event in La Crosse next year.

I waited 90 minutes for my food, and it was disappointing. The chicken was rubbery, the pizza was burnt, and the cheese curds were hollow.

The restaurant was undergoing renovations at the time of my visit. There were old towels and some appliances in need of repair. The staff was friendly and helpful, but they seemed unprepared for a large number of guests.

Over the four days I was there, I found the entire staff—from the manager to the bartenders—to be some of the best I’ve encountered in a place like this. Each member was highly professional in their role. I was also pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices; you can enjoy a great meal and unwind after a long day at a convention without breaking the bank. I really hope to return for another few days. Contrary to what I read in some negative reviews, my experience was the complete opposite. The entire place has new management as of 2019, and they know how to treat their customers right. The selection of local beers was quite impressive; as I mentioned, Ben Glarus was my favorite, but I sampled all of them and found each one to be excellent. Plus, they’re served cold from the tap, which I appreciate—every little bit of coldness makes a difference to me!

Based on the name and tagline, I had high expectations for this restaurant. Perhaps it was just the time of day we visited, but overall, we were disappointed. We were the only patrons at the time and waited about 5-10 minutes without seeing any staff. When the server/bartender finally appeared, she spent most of her time outside on her cell phone. The food was decent, but as a first responder, I really looked forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, I doubt we will be returning.
