Chateau des Launes - La Garde-Freinet

We were recommended this restaurant by our B&B patrons. With that recommendation and having seen the menu online we did not hesitate. Much to our disappointment and dismay we were told the menu was not available for lunch. We could select some of the “ardoise”...choices of the day. None of those really matched our taste collectively. When we outed our disappointment we were told “the update of the website was not yet made”. All we were left with was ordering some very tasty and perhaps a tad overpriced finger food. The waitress serving our cocktails meant to be the aperitif before starting our meal handed those to us holding them by the edge of the glass, which certainly nowadays os a little bit grim. Let’s hope her hands were properly disinfected. This technique did give us a good look at het dirty fingernails (seriously). In all honesty, this place looks very nice and judging by the few nibbles we were able to order, the food will be good. Only we did not want to order from the limited choice by elimination. Had we known, we would not have come for lunch.

It is difficult to try to justify the name of this location UP as you could be in any vineyard in the new world and difficult to understand what the decor has to do with Provence. My friend and I found the restaurant very dissapointing,...and had to return both, a lumpy mash potato and some soggy chips. It would appear that the kitchen is very well equiped and that such simple things as mashing and frying should never be a problem. obviously this is down to the personnel not up to the task!

The menu has food from about every genre, and while some things are good one night (Clams for example) the next night they are undercooked and cold. Everything is ok but the operations seem understaffed and flustered. The staff is very nice but the food...needs a rethinking.

Highly recommend this restaurant and the hotel. The whole domain was restored with taste and attention to detail.The staff is highly professional and kind. The food is tasty, perfect price quality. Definitely a place to stay or stop by.

Très bon accueil et surtout cuisine originale et goûteuse. Rapport qualité prix incontestable et cadre alliant terroir et modernité. On a aimé et on reviendra !
