One of the best restaurants in tulum. absolutely delicious. excellent service (for benicio del toro). fantastic drinks. cozy and romantic.
İt is a beautiful ambiente for dinner, it is short behind be tulums recipe, eating is mediocre, but there was live music that was beautiful.
For all the people saying this is their favorite restaurant in Tulum, did we eat at the same place?! We had a dinner reservation at 8pm, restaurant was near empty. Only one other couple. In the time that we were there, we saw two other...couples seated who promptly left after viewing the menu. Service started out very strong wait staff spent time explaining each dish and all cocktails in great detail. They brought over some Mexican tequila for a little sampling. They were out of a lot of their wine-by-the-glass offerings, so I ended up with a glass of white wine. It was just okay (to me). My boyfriend ordered a couple cocktails and said each one tasted bland, like the ice had melted before it was even served to him. The dishes we ordered came at the recommendation of our server, who was very passionate about them. Each dish came out with great presentation, but the flavors just weren't there. We ordered the Kampachi Ceviche, Soft Shell Crab Taco, and Grilled Fish. The Ceviche was decent, but wasn't mind blowing for the cost. We did not like the batter on the fried Crab. As for the Grilled Fish, it tasted exactly how we would make it at home. It was nothing special. We felt the value for this restaurant was low. The following night, we ate at Hartwood and were so impressed the cost was fairly high, but arguably the best food we've ever had. It was worth it. Towards the end of our meal, the wait staff became almost non existent. We requested additional water and never received it. No one checked in on us towards the end keep in mind the restaurant was empty. When my boyfriend gave feedback about the low quality of the cocktails, they offered to make another at no cost. It was a nice gesture, but he felt like that one was still not that good. The atmosphere and decor of Ocumare is great, but when your restaurant is near empty at 8pm at one of the best hotels in the hotel zone... that should be a telltale sign that something is not right.
Decor beautiful, cocktails really good and service good. the eating was beautifully presented and the menu had many options for all diners, but eating was somewhat overwhelming. it really lacked the toughness that we would expect from the price and background of the cook. it was not a terrible. meal, but also not as good as other places we have been in mexiko
