Restaurant Bar Sushi Sogen - La Prairie

During my visit, I tried a few items, starting with the 9-piece sashimi plate. While the taste was acceptable, it was somewhat underwhelming, particularly regarding the selection of fish. Next, I had the specialty maki, called Kanji Supaishi. It was intriguing, especially the no-rice soy wrap, but I found the addition of sliced strawberries puzzling. Their flavor didn't complement the maki, and aesthetically, they felt out of place. I also sampled the sweet shrimp sashimi, which was a bit disappointing. The menu stated it came with three pieces, but I was served only two. Additionally, I couldn't detect the ocean umami sweetness that I was expecting. Lastly, I ordered the suicide hamachi maki, which was advertised as spicy, but I found it to be completely lacking in heat.

The service was outstanding, making for a wonderful experience overall. Every dish we tasted was delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the variety of flavors and textures. I will definitely return!

We were a group of seven dining on a Tuesday night and had a reservation for 6:30 PM. The restaurant was quite busy for a Tuesday, which made it clear they were understaffed. Honestly, the dining area feels far too large for just four sushi chefs to manage all orders quickly. After completing our sushi order sheet, we waited at least 15 minutes before anyone came to collect it. We sat there trying to wave down a server. Our appetizers finally arrived after a 30-minute wait, but we continued to wait—and wait—for our sushi order. By the time it arrived at 8:35 PM, we had lost our appetite and managed to eat very little of it. Our waitress didn't even try to apologize or offer an explanation for the delay; in fact, she didn't take a moment to clarify what was on our sushi platter. With a bill exceeding $500, we expected much better service. On the positive side, the food we did get to enjoy was incredible! In the future, I would probably opt for takeout instead. Food rating: 9/10; Service rating: 3/10.
