The food was excellent and the service kind and professional. I tried le steak a cheval literally 'steak on horseback! ' which turned out to be a very high quality piece of ground beef, perfectly char broiled, with a runny egg on top. You can 't really go wrong with a runny egg on top of something. My husband had the steak au poivre, very flavorful with a delicious sauce. The Terrasses du Larzac red wine went beautifully with both. The title on TripAdvisor categorizes this place as 'fast food, ' but although the service is speedy, the food is real French food, cooked properly. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices, too: very good value for the money. If you 're in La Rochelle, it 's easy to stay at the Old Port and not venture a few streets back, but if you do, there you will find picturesque old streets filled with wonderful restaurants and shops.
We had a lovely lunch at this nice and calm terasse just next to the beautiful hôtel de la ville. The kids had tasty hamburgers and we had tartare de saumon that was fresh and tasty. The service was friendly but a bit slow. We would however go back.
The Brassiere is located opposite the Town Hall which is currently undergoing extensive renovation. There is seating both inside and out with gas heaters for those sitting outside. The Tartare Poele was well executed as was the New York Hamburger while I had the linguine aux Gambas which came with 3 over cooked prawns and little taste in the linguine. The Tarte Tartin was however one of the best my husband had eaten and my crepe citron was ok. The wine list here is fairly reasonable. Lots of locals eating here and reasonably priced. They start serving lunch from 12 noon.
The Brasserie de la Poste is a centrally located restaurant adjacent to the town hall of La Rochelle. It serves classic French brasserie food and it does it well, in an un-fussy way that allows you to get on with enjoying your company and the...More
Had a ‘brunch here and it was yummy! I had a crocque with ham, cheese, egg and tomato I think there was some creme frais on there too, it was delicious served with light salad and the best chips I’ve ever had! Hubby had a crepe, with Ice cream and cream. The only slight fault was that he had finished by the time mind was served and the drinks were very slow coming. But we would go back!
