I'm not find of the big Christian message on the wall, which I think is inappropriate and off putting to people of other faiths, but I ignored it. Their recent mask policy, however, is just silly. It is not inappropriate to ask people personal health questions ie, are you healthy today, are you vaccinated in a global pandemic. As someone who was a government attorney for a decade, and whose spouse works in public health, it also is NOT a HIPAA violation to ask about vaccination status. HIPAA applies to healthcare providers and insurance companies. It is not inappropriate for me to ask, not for a business to ask for verification of vaccine status. It's just plain nonsense to say it is. It leaves me feeling money is more important than protecting vulnerable members of the community at a supposedly Christian business. They'd be better off limiting capacity, which wasn't being monitored as far as I can tell, and improving the HVAC. And asking members to verify vaccination and limiting the number of unvaccinated persons at one time. I'm cautiously returning, because it's reasonably safe for me personally. But I'm disappointed at how they've conducted re opening.
I absolutely LOVE this fitness center! I've been a member for over ten years! The facility is super bright with tons of natural lighting, the staff and instructors are amazing and the kids room has a huge two-story slide!
Today was my first and last day. The gym, overall, isn't that bad, but it doesn't serve the purpose of a real 24 hour gym and I'm not very certain about what I am paying for. I'm going to try and break this down so it makes sense but they all kind of fall under the same issues: 1) THE INITIAL SIGN UP: I signed up online with a help of a staff. They have a laptop available out front. You pay a prorated fee for the month and then you pay your last month. Pretty standard stuff. I asked a few questions, and instead of giving me a tour, the person helping me just said, the locker room is over there, the weights are up there, and whatever. Had I actually walked around on my own, I probably would have had a better understanding of what was being offered but since it didn't seem like a tour was something they offered, I decided to just leave and figure it out when I started my workout. As I was leaving, I saw people scanning in their cards. Because I knew I'd be working on early, usually around 0300, I wanted to make sure my card worked. That's when I was told that their system doesn't recognize the barcode until 0700 the next day. Well, I'm glad I asked to scan it because I would have been pissed had I tried to come in at 0300 without any one being able to help. They were able to call their security team and get me in the next day. Easy fix. 2) THRIVE PRIME MEMBERSHIP: It's supposed to allow you 24 Hour Access This Location, Staffed Hours Access All Locations, Free Guest Passes, Unlimited Classes, Unlimited Tanning, and Towel Service. But here's what not advertised or explained... Yes, it's 24 hours. Yes, they have staff during specific hours and other gyms through WA that you can go to. Yes, you can get guest passes. Yes, they have classes, I believe I saw the calendar and they are offered between 0500 and 2000. Yes, they have tanning but you can't use the tanning beds during non-staffed hours, which is unfortunate. And yes, they have towel service but during non-staffed hours, they put the towels out front so essentially, anyone could grab and use them. Soooo, you mean to tell me that I'm paying more money just the 24 hour access because I can't tan (which is why I got this), and I wanted towel service, because..... who doesn't? But they are available for anyone anyways? I'm more than a little confused. 3) SHOWERS: Never have I ever, been to a gym that closed down the showers. This morning, I came in to put my bag in a locker when I realized there was a sign in front of the showers saying that area was off limits during non-staffed hours. This blew my mind. I have to be at work at 0600, which means I need to be done getting ready by 0500, and out of the door by at least 0515-0520 to make it to work on time. I asked the front desk when they arrived, and also asked for some towels, and she said the reason why it was closed during non-staffed hours was a liability issue, in case someone fell and no one was around to check on them. Great, so today I was later for work. I asked for the manager to give me a call because obviously this gym is not going to cut it for me. Oh, and PS. The water pressure in the shower is pretty much existent. Also, I noticed a lot of grime and nasty **** on the shower head. I almost wanted to just leave and take a shower at work since we have a shower in the office but at this point, it was already too late. 4) EQUIPMENT: This gym is definitely a smaller gym but it does offer everything you need. From what I could figure out, the cardio equipment was down stairs with some strength training stuff, along with TRX.... which, once again, is only offered during staffed hours. I walked by a few times because I could see the TRX yellow straps hanging but I couldn't see the black straps and handles that go with them. It wasn't until a staff member showed up, I want to say around 0445 to put the straps on. I'm assuming this, too, is a liability issue? This place has way too many restrictions and doesn't function like a real 24 hour gym should. I should be able to take a shower whenever I need to and use what is offered in my membership, with out without staff. I didn't have an issue with 24 hour fitness, which is probably where I'm going back to. I will admit, the staff is extremely friendly. I was able to get a full refund for the prorated month and my last month's charges. Needless to say though, this is not a gym I would recommend to anyone actually looking for a full on 24-hour gym. BUT, for those who seem to be regulars here, it seems as if it really works for them.... but for someone with my schedule, it only adds a whole lot of unnecessary stress.
Good gym, good staff, good prices. Good mix of machines and free weights. Even at peak hours can easily get any sets in. Staff does a great job keeping the place super clean and every member gets a spray bottle and towel to clean their workout area after sets. Sauna is always a nice toasty 180 degrees. 5 stars
Owner is a complete weirdo, makes you uncomfortable with his awkward way of approaching you. I have no clue why he is going in and out of the kids room and approaching the children as well. I never gave him permission to talk to my child and he scared her.
