The exterior is naturally beautiful, like the surroundings. The menu is well written without the unnecessary pomp and circumstance that places certain restaurants of this quality. I didn't feel like the menu would mislead me when I read it. The drinks were also very simple, which allowed me to recognize exactly what I wanted to imbibe and consume. The bartender Tyler and the manager Julia did spectacularly all night and directed my questions about the sources of their food and dealing with my special requests. They were a dream team and offered the level of service I would have expected from older, nationally recognized chains (a la Ruth's Chris). I flew to New Jersey and then went to Philadelphia to try the General's wars. And from an aesthetic point of view it was worth the journey. But no restaurant is worth the travel time if the food is not acceptable. The general exceeded my admittedly high expectations. From the fresh brioche to the incredible steak, from the patio punch to the pot de cream, everything I consumed was absolutely phenomenal. Particularly noteworthy is the middle rare steak, served with an engraving that was so absolutely tasty I did not convey the words how filled it was. The wort was perfect (a result of dry rubbing, as I understand) and the size, murmuring and cross-section when I cut into it... spectacular. In summary, it can be said that the general was absolutely exalted and I can't wait to create a region to return to the Philadelphia ground to share their food again. What an incredible experience.
I went with two other people at my party who both enjoy good food as much as I, so we were able to taste several different appetizers and entree's. I had a red wine on the glass, chosen for me by Ryan our server, that went exceptionally well with everything I tried. I had a pork belly kicked mushroom appetizer that melted into the mouth. From the sushi side of the restaurant, I mentioned that there was also a sushi bar in general, we had the role with the crispy fried onions above and shrimps. It was delicious and with the Wasabi and Ginger it also went well with my red wine. The courses were perfectly spaced and everyone came exceptionally well presented. Each of us had another duck, the duck, the crab, and I got the ****. We all came to the conclusion that the **** was the winner who was cooked for perfection. If the general were closer to my house, I would be there every night. And on the way back to the city I was looking for places to live closer.
The third time for dinner at the General. I tried the French onion soup. Nothing like before. It was very good. My husband had the special seafood bisque. He said it was from this world. He also tried the Calamari and thought it was one of the best he ever had. And if that wasn't enough, he had the scallops and I had the Lancaster chicken. The chicken was so tender and the vegetables were boiled right. My husband couldn't say enough good things about the scallops, they were delicious. Unfortunately we didn't have room for Dessert. And the staff was very friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great time!
Amazing menu...Holiday, creative and delicious! Chef Michael DeLeone is a master in his own right and the owners took the time to turn a historical property into a real restaurant. Ambiance is warm and intimate, the waiting staff is professional and I highly recommend it! (p.s. Beware of the bread... it is quite addictive!
Wonderful food and everyone there were so unbelievably nice! Our waitress couldn’t have been more sweet and helpful! Defiantly recommend!!!
