To start we had mussels, fish soup and onion soup all of which was very good, the fish soup was full of fish and only 3.80 euro. The the main courses, monkfish with prawns and rice, a large serving pot came to the table in which there was enough for 2 people but it was only for one, my wife have sole fillets SIX fillets arrived on her plate, my brother had blackened pork shoulder and his wife tropical style chicken. The pork shoulder was the only meal cleared but only because they were all so large. Including bread, 3 soft drinks, a bottle of wine and half bottle of red wine, the whole meal came to 101 Euros. Amazing value.
Good choice of starter and main courses. House wine incredibly good value and very drinkable. All of our starters were superb. I choose piri piri prawns as main course which had an underlying taste of tomato ketchup in the sauce so was a little disappointed with that. Service was a little slow, but, the restaurant was busy and we weren't in a hurry. Whilst I wasn't 100% happy with my the taste of my main course it wouldn't stop me from going again and trying something different. Prices are very reasonable and staff friendly.
Ate here because one of our party was trying to find the perfect octopus dish (he abandoned his quest before the week was up! . Food best described as good Portuguese home cooking. Lamb chops lovely, seafood pasta was delicious and the octopus was tender but incredibly oily and glutinous, but perhaps that is how it is supposed to be? The almond tart pudding was scrumptious and the ladies serving us were delightful. Overall, a lovely evening.
How this restaurant is not in the top 10 in Carvoeiro is beyond me because the service and food are out of this world, most probably because it used to be called Biffe until a new owner bought it and its the appearance from the road doesn’t help and the name doesn’t exactly slip off the tongue but please don’t be put off by that because if you like fish then order the grilled mixed fish with potatoes and vegetables it’s absolutely amazing for €15 !! or the monkfish and rice fantastic flavours, it’s a sister restaurant to “A Gale” across the road so that speaks for itself. This restaurant deserves a better rating than TA give it but it’s up the customers and reviewers to give it the rating it deserves. Just try it. The fish grill consisted of tuna steak, salmon, scallop, codfish, King Prawn and langostino served with potatoes and vegetables
