It's about half way. We were directed to the back of the restaurant for our buffet lunch which the speciality was their fried Chicken and lemon meringue pie. It was good for buffet food as it came with a selection of fresh salads
Fill up and eat in Jasper or Lake Louise first. Take a picnic lunch with you to eat somewhere along the road. The Crossing is crowded, food is unbelievably expensive and tasteless. Their buffet might be more palatable but we wouldn't know as it is reserved for bus tour groups that have pre-booked. Beer is available in the cafeteria line but no wine.
Thanks to trip advisor we already knew what to expect. The rooms were real simple and basic like a Motel 6. The meals at the local restaurants were simple, basic but still OK. Unfortunately there is nothing else around so you must pay for the location.
On a tour and this was the only place to eat along the tour. They had a buffet, self serve cafeteria and a pub. We ate at the self serve cafeteria and had soup, chili and split a sandwich. All were very high priced. The soup and chili was OK but the sandwich did not have hardly any meat or cheese. It was like eating a big piece of bread. If you can find another place to eat---do it. But if you eat here -STICK WITH THE SOUP AND CHILI.
We were hungry and decided to pull over because we wanted to eat at a quiet spot close to Lake Louise. We wanted a cheeseburger and hot dog and found out that we have to grill it. At first, I wasn't sure about the experience and my husband didn't feel like grilling on vacation (I do not usually grill at home), so I decided I would do it. I went inside and was given the meat and buns and grilled our meal. I was told how much time I should spend and grilled it myself. It was fun and the food turned out great. We also were able to have soup, salad, and baked beans.
