Heard the owner stay in India for 20 plus year before moving to Nepal, I decided to take his Curry Udon which I normally do not (because in Singapore I used to take India curry so not very used to Japanese type of curry). It was a real decision, it was sooo good! It was not so spicy, it has India spices and more like Curry soup as usual Japanese sticky curry. I highly recommend that, Curry Udon, if you can take little spicy.
An authentic oasis of Udon and Soba in Kathmandu. Minimal, clean and no Frills type of space with the best handmade noodles. We were lucky enough to have some of their freshly made mochi (strawberry) that they usually run out very quickly. Not surprising as they are absolutely delicious. Best kept secret in Patan, and my favorite place in Kathmandu.
Japan Noodle Kitchen. They have hand made Udon, Japanese wheat noodles, noodles are chewing and tasty, owner makes Limited portions every day, they could only open for lunch. The menu is extensive. Today, when I sold out the Udon for lunch after 2 a.m., sad, there was only Soba, buckwheat noodle, phapar ko chau chau, (drawn photos), I had hot Soba with herbal tempura extra large part, the noodle soup was a bit bland. The dish filled me up and this January 2019 cold day the hot Soba noodle soup made me sweat halfway through my meal, had to remove my jacket.
Delicious noodles are served here. Nothing fancy but hand made noodles served in clear and delicious broth. All noodles are handmade in limited amount in the early hours. Restaurant does not serve dinner as they shut down by 4pm, since all noodles will have been sold by then. Love the cold noodles in the hot summer.
On a cold wintery day in Kathmandu no better place to be than at Japanese Noodle Kitchen AKA JNK, slurping on their udon choices. Run by a Japanese expat who has retired here in Nepal it's easier to speak to him in Nepali than english ! . The menu is predominantly Udon (it is a noodle kitchen after all) but delicious. Be prepared for a slight wait as EVERYTHING for you udon will be prepared from scratch and is worth the wait. Has limited opening hours and is not open for late evening dinners etc. It's nice to have such an authentic place in this part of town.
