First time trying this place and i must say...its just average! going in i had my expectations set a bit high only to leave a bit disappointed as well. nice, clean and big place though! hostess very friendly and server very proactive and helpful attitude. we ordered the bacon mushroom burger, the steak and panko shrimp combo, and the lunch shaved prime rib sandwich with tomato soup and arugula salad. the burger tasted ok. problem was, it was a bit burned, and so were the mushroom. quite soggy and have lost their plumpness. the patty itself was a bit dry. the sandwich was awesome! with melted swiss cheese to complement the shaved prime rib, and bread perfectly toasted and complimented by the arugula salad with fresh tomatos and a cup of tomato soup ...it was the best dish for me. now its a steak house per se, but the steak was so so. common theme? ordered medium well, but middle had no trace of pinkness. meat was charred that you could taste the burnt parts with everybite. the onion rings that came with it had too much batter. the mash was dry and not seasoned at all. you had to put gravy or else, it would be inedible. now for gravy, we were t informed it would be an extra $3!!! lol. kinda unfair when it shouldve come with it. they have a late night bites special...maybe will try that next time. but as far as coming back for lunch or dinner is concerned , they are same level as boston pizza! all flare but no flavour!! cheers! happy eating!
The beef dip was phenomenal. We are big fans of RIbeye steak anyway and it forms the base for the meal. It is seasoned with garlic aoili and horseradish and we feel it is the best Beef Dip we have ever tasted (and we know Beef dips). Service was prompt and friendly and staff are well schooled on sanitation protocols. A bit out of the way but worth a visit. Construction in the area is impacting business and parking but the place will be a big success once new residential premises are occupied. Go before the rush! We live in Sidney but have made the drive (check a map for distance) several times.
Wow is all I can say about this place. My girlfriend is suffering from salmonella poisining from last nights attempt at dinner. Who knew when ordering a chicken salad you had to ask for your chicken to be cooked?!? I find this insulting considering our waiter told us how much the kitchen takes pride in their grilled plates. This chicken was not just a little pink it was clearly flash grilled from frozen. After only 1 bite my girlfriend immediatly noticed the raw chicken and expressed how disgusted she was by the plate to our waiter not willing to have a replacement plate from a kitchen that was serving raw chicken. In turn i also explained my frustrations and my discomfort in attempting my plate. The managment thought it would be satisfactory to still charge me for the meal that i wouldn 't eat without the company of my poorly served girlfriend and neglected to comp the drinks as they initially offered. Instead they offered us 2 free burgers on out NEXT VISIT LOL. Yeah right, as if i would ever step foot in your establishment again! Needless to say I am contacting VIHA to enforce an inspection as after reading many online reviews we are only a small portion of unsatisfied customers being served undercooked food.
The evening didn't start out well. We picked here as I had heard that it was good for kept options (more on that later). We made reservations through OpenTable and walked through the door a few minutes before our reservation time. We were told that they don't check their online reservations at night and that we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table. As it would take longer than that to get to another restaurant we decided to stay. We got seated and what looked like the best option for me was the rib eye at $39.99. I ordered it rare and it was tougher than a cut of meat at this price has a right to be. I traded the potato based sides for additional veggies, which were good. My wife and kids ordered non-steak dishes that all came with fries. There was really inconsistent amounts of fries, even though the dishes were comparably priced. This left one of my kids hungry, while another had leftovers because they'd eaten too many fries. Portion management is something they need to work on. The waitress came by and asked if I would like a refill on my half filled drink (club soda) and I appreciated the diligence. Unfortunately it came back topped up with tap water. All that I can say is that we should have taken the later reservation at the Keg and that we won't be back to Mr. Mikes.
