We kicked things off with some crispy tempura coconut prawns, which had a fantastic flavor, complemented by a dipping sauce that had just the right amount of sweet heat. The poke bowl was a bit overwhelming due to the sesame chips; the balance was off, and it would have been better with fewer chips or more poke. However, my favorite dish was the noodles, bursting with sweet and tangy flavors, and perfectly cooked. My only disappointment was the lemongrass chicken skewer, which mainly tasted like lemon and lacked that authentic Asian lemongrass flavor. Aside from that, we thoroughly enjoyed the service and ambiance—it's a lovely spot for a date. The music was at a pleasant volume, allowing for easy conversation, and the decor was charming.
I had heard numerous recommendations for Stairway to Haven from a customer of mine, and although past suggestions haven't always panned out, I decided it was time to give this place a shot since I'd never been before. Located on 64th Avenue near Willbrook Mall, the restaurant's parking is on its east side, so be sure not to park in the pub lot next door. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the hostess and noticed the exterior features an enclosed patio. To the left of the entrance is a bar, while the dining area on the right includes both tables and booths with a high ceiling. There’s also a staircase leading to a second level of dining. The overall layout and atmosphere reminded me of places like Cactus Club and Joey's. Now, here’s what I ordered: 1. **Haven Caesar**: This was just okay, fairly average. 2. **Aelo Apertivo Spritz**: A light and refreshing drink; quite a nice mocktail. 3. **Gyoza from Another Planet**: The dish was overwhelmed by ingredients, losing the essence of simple gyoza. 4. **Tempura Coconut Prawns**: These were crunchier than similar offerings at Whitespot and Milestones, but they missed the light, airy texture typically associated with tempura. 5. **Dill Pickle Fried Chicken Wings**: Unfortunately, these were slightly overcooked and lacked a distinct dill pickle flavor. They were quite bland without the house-made ranch sauce. 6. **Broiled Char Siu Salmon**: The sauce had a delightful, intriguing flavor that complemented the dish well, but the salmon was overcooked and lacked the characteristic char on the edges to truly be called char siu. 7. **14oz AAA Charbroiled Ribeye Steak**: A generous portion, nicely cooked; however, the sauce reminded me more of a pasta sauce than a steak sauce. If you enjoy the atmosphere and vibe typical of places like Cactus Club, Earls, and Joey's, this is a nice spot for you. The service was friendly and attentive; it was great to see the staff actively engaged. Overall, while the food was decent, it didn’t quite meet the expectations set by its descriptions—some small adjustments could really enhance the experience. Sometimes, a little tweak is all it takes to illuminate the path along the stairway to food haven.
Ladies night out. Reservation for 3 at 7pm Resturant is packed. Difficult to find parking so we just got dropped off. Decor was lovely, kinda made you feel Like you were somewhere else. Food selection there weren't that many. But what we ordered everything was very good. We mostly went for the cocktails so I forgot to take pictures of the food. Cocktails were delicious ! It's a perfect place for fun drinks and snacks with friends. I'd definitely will come back for the drinks!
Pretty cool tropical themed restaurant by Willowbrook. Parking is available in the lot next to the building. I must say that the interior is fantastic. They nailed the tropical haven theme. There are plenty of trees, and lantern looking lights. Looks like most of the seating is actually in the upstairs mezzanine. Staff are friendly and professional. Food is pretty pricy here. My friends and I had already eaten, so we shared a dish of dill pickle fried chicken wings. There are some 10 wings in total. Nice and crispy, and the pickle slices add a bit of tang. Delicious. Definitely a good venue for spending an evening over some drinks . Recommended.
This was my first time visiting Haven, and I was immediately impressed by their outdoor decor! The plants and waiting area with a fire pit felt very cozy and classy. Going inside, the decor felt bright and modern, with a lot of patterns and cool wallpaper. Service was friendly and attentive. As I was visiting on a Monday, it was all day happy hour, so my partner and I shared the Pipikaula ribs. I felt it was too salty, but the crisp outside and tender meat inside was perfect for me. The dipping sauce was okay for me I think it could have done well with a little more acid to balance out the rib. The pork belly dish had wonderful hearty flavours! The sauce pulled everything together, along with the mushrooms and cabbage. The pork was tender and flavourful. The piece was very large and fatty (as it was pork belly), so we ended up taking a decent amount home. The salmon was cooked perfectly too! It was seasoned well, though I found the sauce to be too acidic and not sweet enough. I liked the charred gai lan and pea shoots garnish as it added to the freshness of the dish. The whipped potatoes for both entrées were done well! Smooth and soaked up flavours. I would come back to try more appetizers and entrées!
