This place is hands down the best sushi restaurant I have been to. I come here all the time now, and I have not been disappointed yet. Only thing I would like to see is for them to increase the size of their restaurant if possible. it is usually always packed so it sometimes hard to get a table. Keep up the great work guys.
If you pop by Noma on a Friday or Saturday night, it speaks for itself. The place is packed, with a lineup of people waiting for a table, and as many people again waiting for take-out. The food is fantastic, the service is top notch, and the price is surprisingly inexpensive. We're lucky enough to be within walking distance of Noma, and popped by on a Friday night last week. It's a very busy place on weekends, but we were lucky enough to get a table for two within 10 minutes. Moments after we arrived that wait doubled. It's worth the wait however, don't let a few minutes dissuade you. Grab a menu and start thinking about what you want to order! They do have a nice selection of Japanese beers available, but I always opt for the tea. The servers are great here as well. Always ensuring you have everything you need, and topping up your tea without having to ask. The portions are big, so we generally order light with the option to order more if we need to (we never do!). Make sure to check it out!
This small restaurant can get very busy but if you have the time, it is worth it. The food is good and the portions are generous for the very reasonable prices. The service is very friendly but it can be slow. Although, recently it seems to have been better. I can't eat sushi but I've been told it is good. I can vouch for the tempura and gyoza as well as yummy mains like the beef and chicken teriyaki and the yaki udon. They don't have forks and knives on the table, only disposable wooden chopsticks but they don't look at you funny if you ask for cutlery. All in all a very worthwhile stop if you're in the area and looking for a good place to eat.
I enjoyed my first visit at Noma, but my last dinner at Noma with my daughter left me very disappointed. Noma produces good sushi rolls, sashimi, and bento boxes, but the rest of the menu items are poor imitations of simple Japanese comfort food. The yakisoba I had was basically noodles drowning in sweet teriyaki sauce. Authentic Japanese yakisoba has a savoury and umami profile from the seaweed topping and acidic balance from shoga (hot pickled Japanese ginger). When I asked the waiter for these essential items, he looked confused and admitted they didn't have any. It was also similar for the takoyaki (octopus cooked in breaded balls) where seaweed and shoga are staple condiments. The most unforgivable issue was the overcooked tonkatsu (fried breaded pork chop). It was overcooked to the point of the meat being tough and inedible. Normally the breaded coating should be crispy and light, but the it was oily an dense. I'm convinced that panko bread crumbs were not used and the oil temperature was too low. I mentioned this to the waiter when he asked me how the meal was, but there was only a feeble sorry and no attempt to make things right. I may return to Noma for sushi, but definitely not for the other items.
