I understand why they won the top prize at the margaritafest. had the tacos, and appreciate the creativity of the options and great selection. they tasted a Wee-Bit-Brüse, but seemed in agreement with means of life that we had in mexiko. had a burrito and liked it better; I think I'll order the next time. the prices are a bit high, but it is nice to finally have an upscale, non-stereotypical Mexican restaurant in lansing.
Food was really good, service was good also. The price is a bit higher than some other chain Mexican restaurants, but the atmosphere is really nice and they have a nice patio too. Be sure to visit for your birthday for a free birthday dessert! We will definitely be back again!
Honest review. I would say the food was good, not great, but good four out of five stars. What knocks this down to 3 is the price. I don't mind paying good money for outstanding food. Unfortunately, I don't think Cantina Eastwood has outstanding food and it's hard with so many other great places to eat Mexican food like El Oasis and Pablo's in Old Town. We had chips and salsa that came with our meal my wife really enjoyed it. Some of the chips had a lot of seasoning and others not as much, and the ones with less seasoning really complimented the salsa because the salsa was very flavorful. I had shrimp tacos: the shrimp was seasoned and cooked well. My wife had chicken tacos and the chicken was a little dry (a lot dry). Staff was super friendly. Overall decent experience, great atmosphere, good food. I think people could check it out and some people would enjoy it more than others, me and my wife want to come back to try the burrito, margaritas, and their desserts. I think they deserve another try because they just opened and I understand that.
They were only open for about a week when we went. Really good Mexican fare. Delicious and different Margaritas. Limited menu keeps it authentic, fresh and home made. Salsa was not impressive, cheese dip better than most. Several kinds of tacos done to perfection. We were able to trade and have 1 of each pastor, barbacoa and carnitas. All were delicious. It's was an retired work friends gathering. Needs to be explored again! Second visit not so great. Lacking spices. Asked for hot salsa, it's called Diablo. Like eating pureed habaneros. No real flavor, just heat. A place like this should be making their own salsa and guacamole at the very least. I don't think that's happening. I lowered from 4 to 3 stars. Outside dining area has heaters as well as a fire pit.
This was our first visit. Three of us went for dinner. The decor is not Mexican. The music was. Our waitress was friendly. We got tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole and refried beans as appetizer. The salsa was not good. Watery, bland, odd taste. I have had better guacamole. The chips had powder seasoning on them. We ordered drinks: margaritas and a mojito. They are served in water glass type glasses. They have plastic straws in them. The mojito had two straws. Plastic straws are bad for the environment and are being banned some places. The menu is just one page. It has vegetarian meals labeled. No vegan options, so I had to modify a vegetarian meal. I got 2 Roasted Califlower tacos, a la carte. It also comes as a meal with beans and rice. I had to have the Esquites removed from the tacos. I had never heard of this and googled it. It is a corn based mix with cheese and mayonnaise in it. My husband got the same tacos, but got the meal and did not remove ingredients. He liked them. My mouth was burning! I buy medium salsa for at home, and this was hotter! My husband added green hot sauce to his and loves spicy foods. I let him finish half of my second taco. Our friend got 3 regular tacos a la carte. He liked those. Overall, we were not impressed. I won't be going back anytime soon.
