I have been waiting to write a review for this restaurant in the hopes that it would improve, but now it is time to share my thoughts.
I went on a date with a lovely lady at this restaurant.
Me and my buddies were in town from Ottawa for the Pascal-Kovalev fight at the Bell Center, we wanted to have a bite and watch the undercard fight at a sports bar instead of sitting for hours at the Center until the main bout, which would be at about 11pm. Our hotel concierge sent us to a local sports bar nearby, when we got there it was jammed packed and we couldn't get a seat, we didn't want to walk around in the snow storm so we ended up right door at Vicolo. The sign said 'Vicolo Restaurant & Bar' so we figured we were good to go, LOL. Nice big place but really cozy, which I like. We started off at the bar(hot barmaid, haha) and ended up sitting not too far away in a booth where we could watch a hockey game and still see the barmaid. Ok, lets serious here, the food was great! I'm a foodie(and a little overweight). We ordered a bunch of stuff like grilled octopus, fried calamari and some bufalo cheese salad(can't remember the exact name), we threw in a couple pizzas with tastiest dough I've had in a long time, I asked about it and was told that it was home made. Some of the guys stuck with more pizza for their meal but me and the others went for something fancier, I went for the Osso Bucco of the day, WOW! Veal osso bucco sitting on a bed of barley risotto, never had that before, it was great. One of the guys had a really nice cheese stuffed ravioli with duck and another had linguini with meatballs, he never said a word as he gulped it down, he went to the fight with sauce stains on his shirt, LOL! The service was amazing, everyone came around to see us from busboys to management, all really cool. Wait! I'm not done. We went back after the fight and guess where we sat? Yep, at the bar until 2am! We had a blast with other clients and the staff, one of the clients happened to be Lee Campbell one of the boxers on the undercard we spoke to him for a while, we were also told that not sitting far away from us was the owner of the AHL team Hamilton Bulldogs, what a night!Thank you to the staff(especially your barmaid) and management of Vicolo for taking such good care of us, we will be back!
Upon arrival, first glance looks amazing....Valet service available at 10$. Hostess smiled and welcomed us. About 6 waiters all standing together talking and just staring at us...felt a little odd..Food was good some hits and misses..Pro: Warm ambiance, trendy and young. Cons: Music just a little to loud but it was Saturday night so must be normal. Food a little over priced.Suggestion: The waiters are the soul of the restaurant. They need to make sure all guest feel welcome and never judge a book by it's cover. To much pretension for a Bar atmosphere.Overall, it's a nice place to meet friends and have a nice time out in the city!
