Lausanne is not known for it being a number of ethnic food, so when I went past a new one, I knew I had to check it. For a cheap (so this is Switzerland) ice cream, this small (5 tables) ethnic Balkan café adds taste and variety with warmth and service to the repertoire in Lausanne. To be honest, I don't know much about Balkan food, but chief/owner Arsim was to draw attention to the various dishes that he and his wife prepare freshly for the café daily. I'm still not 100% sure that I know that my Qebapa from my Quofta or Pleskavic's, but I really enjoyed each of the different flavors he prepares for my mixed dish and described. All the questions I had about the food or how it was prepared was Arsim was happy to spend time and answer. The lunch plate came with a crispy fresh green salad and soft drink, all for under CHF20, which I think is a lot, especially as there is not much more than a menu in a well-known fast food chain. The Aux Délices of the Balkans is an independent owner who is open later and longer than most major restaurants that make it a point to remember a movie or a late evening.
