The wine was very good and so we managed to almost double this cost. The service from Tony was attentive and prompt. The food on both occasions was good and I loved the freshly baked bread that accompanies everything. Surprisingly when I asked for some cheese after a lunch they told me that they did not serve cheese dishes. In Haute Savoie? They operate a wine cave next door and we enjoyed a very good local wine after lunch.
Menu in L'Entracte is definitely one of the best in Chinaillon, and the quality of products and plates is always high. Excellent fondue (especially with sparkling wine) and some italian specialities, as gnocchi (as they have italian chef), that also makes tasty alternative from traditional food in Alps. We had both pleasant experience with family and especially friends, however as restaurant is tiny and they always full its worth making reservation in advance, to ensure to have place. Side to the restaurant there is Wine bar, managed by young sommelier Toni, that is a great place to have aperitif before dinner or a simple drink with friends (some nice local wines). In general - really good address, fair prices, and pleasant decoration making it feeling in chalet alpine.
A disgrace for Le Grand Bornand... Seldom I have been in a restaurant as cold, arrogant and unwelcome as L'Entracte in Chinaillon. Can the previous owners return, please..., they were great hosts. I was looking forward to an evening with my wife and kids, booked in advance. It was a slow week, with many restaurants almost empty. I had good experience with this place before, but that was a distant past. We were "welcomed" in an OK-ish manner, not warm, just OK, this is not normal for this normally very friendly and warm part of France. We were brought to our table with tasteful benches, the kids (7 and 5) were told they could not move their feet, it would make too much noise....why seat us at this table with benches in the first place?!? The restaurant does not have any kids menus, of course this is not mandatory. When asking for a kids menu the owner replied: "we have nothing special for kids, no fries, no small portions, nothing for kids at all". We were still in a good mood trying to have an enjoyable evening. We then decided not to waste uneaten food and ordered 1 dish for our kids to share. Our kids do not eat as much as adults, ie ordering 3 dishes for the 4 of us. The owner replied that this is not possible, and we MUST order at least one dish per person we decided to order the bill instead of our meal. Ironic detail: the owners take pride that they took a 10 year timeout to spend time with their kids as prominently shared in a little history of the restaurant on the first page of their menu. Not sure what happened in those 10 years but it did not leave any sympathy for children...Owner's response to other poor reviews show a lack of understanding of customer experience and are an insult to people who provide feedback.
Lovely little restaurant. Cool decor and lovely food. Everything from thin and crispy pizzas to local fondue.
