As we were not very good French speakers, the owner carefully explained the menu in English. We both decided on the plate de jour and really enjoyed it. However when we discovered that the crème caramel was to the owner's grandmother's recipe then there was no question of what we were going to have for dessert. And it was wonderful! You could really taste the caramel and the texture was nice and firm. A real pleasure to linger over. Afterwards the chef came out to chat with us before he was scooted back to the kitchen as it was busy. But it does show that they care both for their food as well as for their customers. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Chez Marthe.Oh, and the prices were very reasonable.
In a nutshell....A great place for a great plate of food. A kind and warm service with people that obviously care a lot about what they have built here and that to me is golden. We will of course return and advise any one in the area to visit : )
A recently opened restaurant which we thought we would try. People smoking outside the entrance was not a good start, especially as one of them was the manager/head waiter!Limited menu which included 'soup asiatique' although there was nothing else 'asiatique' on the menu. Not sure what market this place is aiming at.The restaurant is very nicely decorated, but no character at all. We felt we were rather an inconvenicence at the time, as the head waiter - well, he was the only front of house person there, was far more interested in welcoming his local friends than speaking to us visitors! He also went outside for a cigarette every 20 minutes or so, which we found rather off putting.Soupe du jour was off. The food was OK but totally lacking in ambiance, and due to the poor reception, we won't bother to go there again and wouldn't recommend it.
I was on a guys cycling trip and we loved it so much we dined there two nights in a row. Great atmosphere that the owner designed himself. Ran into others that also came back the next evening. Turned into a Tour de France media hang out. Fantastic food. Charcuterie plate with a yummy salad. Good pizzas and entrees. The owners personally gave it that special edge. Highly recommend this place tucked in a back ally with a great story. My rating is based on my experience. A great atmosphere with delicious food that was comforting and uplifting. Especially after a long day of cycling.
The main menu offers traditional French food with the option of pizza if needed. Friendly service with excellent English spoken offered by a local ESF ski instructor, Manu. Friendly chef is on hand to help with dietary options. Inexpensive and friendly restaurant. Only small so book to avoid disappointment.
