Last night was a whole different experience. Waitstaff was so attentive and friendly. A lot of new faces. They kept our tables clean (no we did not have to put the plates in a garbage can). The musician was wonderful. Quiet guitar and harmonica music. The steak and salad were wonderful. Potato was dry and not as Hot as we would have liked, but overall a very good meal. We tried a few of their desserts and they were excellent. If you had a bad experience before I say try it again. I’m glad I did. It was a lovely time.
Very good steaks and suitable sides. While the old country store has its charm, there is nothing charming about the staff. From the grumpy hostess to the zero personality server and all the way through the crotchety grandma taking your money, there is a feeling that you are not welcome. Plastic cups and paper plates are to be disposed of by you in the garbage can adjacent to your table. We drove for an hour to get to this place as it is in the boonies. Maybe I just didn 't get enough of the charm but for $165 for dinner for four I expect to be kissed first.
Terrible Truth. I have visited Gibbes store on multiple occasions, each time with hopes the next time will be better. other than the fact that the staff is rude, they are constantly out of things. Usually being filets and sweet potatoes and or regular potatoes. No big deal besides the fact that there are only minimal options on the menu. Then again if you order a steak it's either over cooked or undercooked that is if you get say within the two hours of wait time. And don't worry your server won't be checking on you anytime soon.
Great Place. I go to Gibbs every Thursday night. I had tried everything on the menu and decided the simple rib-eye steak was my favorite. There salad and comeback dressing are by far the best i have ever had. I love sweet tea and the waiters never let my glass go empty. They did not have the best manners, but they checked in regularly with updates on food and asked for refills, which was more than enough to impress me. All in all, i highly recommend Gibbs for the atmosphere and food.
Deep Country. Yeah, ol ' Sewer Crawler has been there a couple of times I 've eaten. Look, this is in DEEP country. They have not yet heard that Lee surrendered at Appomattox, so things like credit cards, marketing strategies and customer relations are just Yankee fied notions hovering somewhere in deep space. But, that 's the appeal of the place! This is no Cracker Barrel makeover type. It 's the real deal: an old building in an old, forgotten town with strange, outdated manners. Going or leaving you 'll swear that Boss Hog might pull you over to clear ya. Nonetheless, I find the steaks very good and above average. And though sometimes service may lack in the modern sense of the word, you 'll still find servers who perform above par. Just approach it as an Anthropologist might, and that should add to your adventure and culinary journey with some good food in between!
