I'm surprised I hadn't been before but loved going with other people so I could also enjoy the lobster fried rice and scallops!
My previous review was based on the staff and menu at that time (obviously . I am writing an update because much has changed. About a year ago they changed chefs and management, and nothing is the same. (I was told that the departing chef offered to sell his recipes to Pig Finch but they declined. The replacement menu has items that sound appealing, but I gave quite a few of them a try, and nothing has been good. I am no longer a regular here and would say that nothing in my previous review still applies.
I haven 't been in for a visit in a long while but remember the pretzels with beer cheese and had a hankering. The wife and daughter were on board. Sure it is a snowy night 5pm...but the place was completely dead...completely completely dead. Sure the staff was restless....i felt sorry for them. The apps were awful, hard, cold. I sent it back and the new batch was only modestly 'better '. Despite being the only occupied table in the bar we had virtually no service whatsoever. The music was awful and inappropriate by any standards for a mid-level restaurant I tipped 25% out of pure empathy and left. I won 't ever ever go back. This was just awful.
I'm 72 and, over the years, I have literally eaten 1000's of restaurant meals but I don't recall having the experience Pig Finch gave me. I ordered the Ahi Tuna cooked rare. Ahi Tuna should be prepared with sashimi grade tuna and should be eaten cooked no more than rare. The meal was cooked perfectly. Less than an hour after eating this meal I experienced explosive diarrhea. I was leery that the cause could have been the restaurant since the effect happened so quickly after my meal. I Googled food poisoning and called the 800 number. A member of KU Med answered, and I described my symptoms and told her what I had eaten. I also asked if it was possible to have the effects I experienced so soon after ingesting the tainted food. She told me it can happed sooner than what I experienced and that it was undoubtedly the seafood I had eaten. She said tainted seafood, in particular, will produce the effect. I called Pig Finch to report what had happened so they would not serve the tainted seafood to anyone else. The manager I spoke to was sympathetic. She had all my contact info since I had made a reservation for dinner. She asked if she should create an incident report and I said the should. She verified all my information and said someone would be in contact with me the following week. Well, It's been nearly 2 weeks since the incident occurred and I have not been contacted. In the meantime, they hit my credit card for the full amount. I would have thought, since the attempted to poison me, they would have comp'd my portion of the meal. Don't eat a meal in this restaurant! It's obvious they do not care for the food they serve and when they poison someone, they don't do the right thing.
Really yummy. Really fancy, high quality food!! The only thing is that they are pretty expensive.. it's was around 215.00 for 3 people that shared an appetizer, had their own meal and drinks.
