However, when revisiting now in May for a dinner with a company of 17 persons, it was really a disappointment. In short: not particulary tasty. A soup starter without any taste and likwise a fried salmon with pasta also tasteless. The environment is also very tough for conversation, since the ceiling is vaulted and tiles adornes the walls. Maybe groups should avoid this place. At least we will...
We sat at street side tables and ate delicious German food. My hahnschenburst (a chicken cutlet served with noodles, mushrooms and tomatoes) was piping hot and so flavourful. Service was very good as well.
The clerk at our hotel recommended this as a place to try the local Saxon foods; it was an excellent suggestion. Our fish dishes were very good, as was the wine.
I had the typical Saxon dish of marinated beef with apple-flavoured red cabbage and potato dumplings . Finished all the beef and dumplings, the former of which was well done, but only half the red cabbage. There was too much red cabbage on the plate so it could be balanced better. The service was attentive and the local Pilsener beer was lovely and fresh.
I always try to eat local dishes so this place looked like the way to go. Most dishes are heavily meat based. They do have two vegetarian dishes. My girlfriend had the zucchini and she liked it. I had the steak au four which had three kinds of pork meat with cheese on top of it. Pretty cheap, big dishes and good service. Highly recommended
