The Bluebird Tavern - Leland

I can't praise the food and service at this restaurant enough. The fish was incredible, and I truly believe the fries were the best I've ever had.

We've passed by this place for years, but this was our first time dining here. I was really let down by the $22 smelt basket; it was extremely dry. It's disappointing that the kitchen would serve something like this. If a dish looks inedible, it likely is. I got the impression that our server might have noticed something was off but didn’t inquire about it.

On the Sunday of the 4th of July holiday weekend around 6 PM, we were seated right away and had a fantastic server. My husband ordered a deluxe pizza, our daughter chose a cheeseburger with fries, and I had the half-pound whitefish with a side salad. We were all extremely pleased with our meals — everything was delicious!

The staff was friendly, but I anticipated much better for a $16 chicken sandwich. My sister ordered the hot club and enjoyed it, so I wish I could say the same about my meal.

Once a cherished landmark restaurant, it has unfortunately transformed into merely a bar serving average pub fare. After decades of being a premier dining destination, the effects of COVID appear to have sapped the life from this establishment. The main dining room is now closed, leaving only the bar area operational. It's truly disappointing to see!
