In Lens it is customary to eat the main meal at mid day. This means restaurant options in the evening are limited, particularly in the off-season. L'Etiquette is a wine bar offering a large variety of interesting wines by the glass (and an even larger variety by the bottle), and they serve food to go with the wine. Good food. At mid day there are a number of meat dishes to choose from, a stew and a pasta dish ; the meat is grilled on lava stones and comes with potatoes and vegetables. In the evening, guests have a choice of various platters with cold cuts (ham, sausages, rillettes) and/or cheese. Starters include salads and, yes, vintage sardines served in the tin. For dessert there's a choice of home-made tartes. We visited twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. We found both the food and the wines very good, the ambiance homely, the hosts (the owners, husband and wife) agreeable and very accommodating. The overall mood is congenial, easy-going. Obviously people like to come here with friends and colleagues to share a selection of plates and a succession of wines.Prices are decent. All in all a very positive experience, we were happy to have found this place !

Lovely terrace, look, cool indoors, nice couple plus assistant. He at the wine end, she at the food, the third in waitressing. It works. Vintage furniture, clean loos. The plates are slate boards, which give the place a relaxed tapas style, whithout the oil. Chiffon are of Janbon de Bayonne is truly heavenly thinly sliced. The salad is the right size. The boss is knowledgeable in wine and steered me toward a very nice Rhone Rose, without the big blousy alc levels. Quick service, it teems with business people and visitors to the Louvres's latest venture into teaching the nation about art: Louvre-Lens. It works and better than anyone else on the same pavement, all empty restaurants. Except this one. I fully recommend l'Etiquette, Bar a Vin, if you like your vino but want food too. All the best to them.
