The Buttery - Lewes

We always take new out-of-town houseguests to Sunday brunch. The management has changed since last Summer. This was our first Sunday Brunch since the menu change. We were pleasantly surprised. No longer the basket of muffins and Danish placed on the table, but Mimosas, **** Marys' or Champagne is still part of the meal. Now you have a choice of an Appetizer and then your Entrée. Some of the entrée favorites are still there, but there are a few new ones. The Appetizers made a big impression with our group. The cured seafood entrée was delicious and nicely presented. The Egg Salad crouton was an unexpected delight. We are so happy that The Buttery is still a main stay of downtown Lewes and that the new owners have breathed new life into the menu.

Food, service and décor were exquisite. We would not hesitate to return.

Two people in our group had the grilled fish, which was delicious, while another had the duck and filet. I can’t quite remember what the last dish was. The side dishes offered a lovely variety, and the portions were generous.

The Buttery had been our favorite dining spot in Lewes until this trip. We often celebrate our anniversaries on the beach and have enjoyed many memorable meals at The Buttery. However, the new menu just isn't the same. While the food we had was decent, it wasn’t good enough to justify the prices, and the portion sizes were outrageous. We’re accustomed to fine dining, so it's not a matter of not knowing how upscale restaurants operate. For instance, the $17 octopus appetizer, while tasty, contained what could only be about 2 ounces of octopus - and that's probably a generous estimate. We’re now on the hunt for a new favorite place to celebrate on the beach. The menu just didn't resonate with us, and the food quality was inconsistent (like the overly salty ramen served with the scallops, chef!). Overall, The Buttery no longer seems worth the cost.

This place was terrible. I used to love coming here for brunch when it was under the previous ownership; it was fantastic back then. Unfortunately, the new management has ruined it. They've raised the prices and the quality of the food has declined significantly. Our meals arrived cold and lacked flavor. I will definitely not be returning.
