This carvery was the worst I've ever had. Everything was either extremely greasy or dried up. Even 5 hours later, I still have the horrible taste lingering in my mouth. I will never go back again.
This review is specifically focused on the lunch service and menu at the restaurant. Upon entering the busy and noisy bar, we were greeted warmly and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. The decor was clean and attractive. We ordered the Steak and Ale pie with gourmet chips, peas, and a jug of gravy. The pie was small but hot and fresh, not microwaved. However, the chips were not what I would consider gourmet, more like basic store-bought chips. The peas were hot and plentiful, and the gravy was satisfactory. When I inquired about the gourmet chips, a staff member insisted they were indeed gourmet, which I found surprising as a cook myself. My coffee order was forgotten, and after a 20-minute wait, I had to remind the staff without receiving an apology.
We had booked a table at this dog-friendly restaurant in advance, as we were meeting our daughter at the nearby university with our two dogs for dinner. Unfortunately, as we entered the restaurant with our leashed dogs, a large bullmastiff attacked our collie in the doorway. The pub dog had no collar, making it difficult for us to separate them. The owner, who we believe was also the landlord, seemed disoriented and claimed that our dogs' leashes were to blame. It was clear that he had been drinking. This incident occurred just before 7pm, and we were forced to cut our weekend break short to take our injured dog to the vet. Be cautious if you plan to visit this restaurant, as the safety of small children may also be at risk.
