In the village of Newick there are two good pubs, the Bull and the Royal Oak. Both have a lot to offer although the Royal Oak does seem to attract a slightly older clientele suited us as we wanted somewhere quiet for an evening meal and a good pint! The food and drink was excellent and the pub is slightly further away from the A272 so one does not have to look at heavy traffic. The only slight downside which is not unique to this pub, is the costs of drinks; it is understandable and the pressure must be on pubs when supermarkets are selling quality ales for £1 per bottle. However if you are looking for a warm welcome and nice food then the Royal Oak shoul dnot disappoint.
Visited this fabulous pub on the way back from Sheffield Park Gardens, there was four of us (two couples) we had Scampi, stuffed field mushrooms with goats cheese, chicken pesto and lemon dressed salad and sauté potatoes and breaded Brie. We could not fault the food at all, was beautifully cooked, tasted amazing and at a really good price. The staff members were lovely too, wish I had taken their names, we sat outside but did use the toilets which were very clean and tidy. We will definitely go back again in the very near future as there’s so much more on the menu I need to try! If you’re looking for a proper English country pub with gorgeous food and lovely staff you won’t go wrong if you visit here!
A very disappointing experience for Father’s Day and Sunday lunch. Service was unfriendly to start with. There was then no veggie option for the Sunday roast other than having potato’s and vegetables, it’s 2024! We were then charged the price of a full roast even though the most expensive part of the meal we didn’t order…. Not a place I would recommend at all, the atmosphere seemed very flat and service was very amateur.
This local pub has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They serve great classic pub food, focusing on quality rather than trying to be fancy. We started with a delicious prawn cocktail, followed by a roast beef baguette and chips. The fish and chips were exceptional, with a light batter and fresh fish. Everything was tasty and beautifully presented. The bar offers a good selection of drinks and the staff are charming and efficient.
