When discussing this with a friend of mine recently he commented “well it has to be the best family run Free House in the country doesn’t it?” My friend is a knowledgeable, well travelled frequenter of UK pubs (which I like to think applies equally to me) who is not prone to hyperbole, but at the time I did think this sounded a bit OTT. However, the more I think about it, the more I think he may well be right. The range and quality of real ales and ciders is consistently superb (long term Good Beer Guide entrant) and the new wave of craft beers (draught and canned) has been fully embraced. The food is the best value in Lewes, there’s two separate and distinctly different bars, one with a pool table, dart board and juke box, the other bar a fair bit quieter… An annual Beer Festival and a quiz most Bank Holiday weekends add something different and special. But most special of all are the people at the helm. Kathy and Liam, supported by their team of kitchen and bar staff, work tirelessly to provide an environment that is consistently warm and welcoming. You are made to feel part of the Brewers family, and that is a great honour. Happy 30th, Brewers.
Le bosh great pub pool table one quid I beat chaz he sucks. Coincidentally chaz is written on the corner table perchance you get to view it and peruse in all its glory
On a visit to Lewes we chose The Brewers Arms for lunch and we were not disappointed. A traditional bar cosy furnishings, busy but not manic and a friendly ambience. Dogs warmly welcomed. Great to see a proper pub menu good choice from sandwiches to burgers, chilli, sausage and mash, pie, fish etc. Generous portions. Local ale and decent wines by the glass. Recommended.
Chose this pub as it was an independent, family run pub, and I want to support pubs like this. Booked for lunch. Friendly service in the pub. Had a pint of Harvey's which was excellent. Lunch was 1/2lb cheeseburger with chunky chips. My wife had soup of the day (pumpkin and butternut squash) with a roll. Both were really good. Chips were proper chunky chips, served piping hot. Card payments accepted. I have a friend called Harvey, so landlord let me buy a glass for him (contribution to Hospice charity). Gave me a few beer mats as well. Support this pub. Too many like this are closing.
This pub is a real find; not to be missed. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There is a good selection of ales; all kept excellently. I had a lovely porter! There is a very nice garden. The pub is huge with two bars and a pool table! We didn’t try the food this time but will be back to sample very soon.
