The wait staff is cordial and very knowledgeable of the chef’s thinking on the menu items. They have several outdoor seating places, more than they did when I visited several years ago. They focus on local sourcing across the board from the ingredients in the dishes, to the dish ware itself! While everything was wonderful, I want to highlight their whiskey and buttermilk bread pudding absolutely incredible. Possibly the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. You MUST get the bread pudding unless they add a new contender to the dessert selection.
This evening 's dinner was outstanding! Service and ambiance were excellent. In the last few days we 've eaten at two other notable restaurants in Lexington, and from a culinary standpoint this was clearly the best. A bit more expensive, but as my old man used to say, you get what you pay for !
My favorite restaurant where I was. I lived four years in Lexington and visited Rex Hen dozens of times for nights with delicious food, impeccable service and great friends. The room is intimate and cozy, and it is always neat to see the kitchen at work from a dining table. I love the unique and colorful ceramic dishes. The menu changes weekly with everything in the season, and the kitchen and serves are always so knowledgeable and really take care of their dishes, products and customers. Every time I have a meal, I never think it can be better, and it always does! My favourite is the duck with fruity compote, and the roasted chicken is always perfect. I love starting with a soup or a cheeseboard between the table. Dessert is not negotiable – the house lemon meringue is tart and knocks it out of the park. After dinner coffee with liqueur is one of the best drinks I had, and the local coffee is some of my favorite. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive and accommodating. I cannot recommend the Red Hen enough! A trip to Lexington is never complete here without dinner. Edit: By the way, you can say what reviews are fake: Red Hen uses only earth, fire, Spirit Pottery (local) for dishes. And trust me, you always want a photo of your food!
Nestled in a charming little red house at the corner of Main Street in Lexington, this cozy restaurant has just a few tables, creating an intimate atmosphere that makes you feel well taken care of. My salmon was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. The cheese board was exquisite, featuring a selection that would satisfy everyone at the table. Everything we sampled was delightful. I must highlight the Bibb salad, which was a standout and served as the perfect appetizer to our meal. Unlike the salads you often find at many restaurants, this one was refreshingly crisp and exceptionally tasty.
