We arrived at this restaurant around 3.05pm so the first thing that i can say is that a very good side to this place is that it has generous opening hours (we found the place we wanted to go to was certainly closed by 3pm as most establishments are in Lisbon which we were certainly grateful for. We wanted to sit outside however some chain smokers (literally did not stop in the whole hour we were there kept us from doing that (either way, with an open front door, their smoke came in nonetheless . We were the first diners to dine inside so the choice was ours for tables but really, as a party of three, it left us underneath the television playing football quite the ambiance! Fortunately for us, as tennis lovers, they gave us the liberty to change the channel if we found the one we wanted (they tried but quit soon after all the found within 3 channels of football was rugby so now we had eurosport live on playing the French open, a nice benefit for us. We were given our menus straightaway and as there was no plato do dia (meal of the day , we were to choose a meal from over 100 meals which were all pictured (AND in our language, their menu caters for several languages: Portuguese; English; French and Spanish . We eventually asked the waiter to give us some ideas of good meals and we settled on the dorade, pork with clams, and grilled cod between 3 women (mother, 2 daughters . Our meals arrived within 15 minutes (timed but whilst waiting, there was no aperitif or anything! Not even bread that we could pay for! Ten minutes in, we asked them for bread, so they literally gave that to us with no butter or cheese or anything although these additions were waiting on the counter. The table next to us which had filled up with a couple had already had bread given to them despite them arriving 10 minutes later to us. My only note on this is that although it is not poor service, it is simply quite un Putuguese as we 've found in many establishments it is the first thing they ensure that once we are sat down we have some form of nibbles. So our food arrived and our first impressions were as follows: dorade where 's the other half of the fish?! Pork and clams oh, with fries. Cod nice size! To explain, the dorade (golden bream was delicious and all however the portion was quite small when usually one is served the whole fish since it 's not that large and it was accompanied with some simple vegetables that made the dish not particularly large in portion size or filling altogether. The pork and clams were good, not bad, but a small plate of fries accompanied with it and a lot of the pork was fatty pieces which made much of it not particularly edible if you don 't eat pork fat. The cod was brilliant as the piece was great (in size and was accompanied with 4 or 5 potatoes a filling meal! However, upon tasting it, although it was said to be grilled, and it looked that way, the top tasted almost rubbery and burnt (which was the same for the bottom with skin , not much crispiness as one might expect. However, for a piece that large, although it was not a fillet (so it had many bones , the piece was big enough that in the middle, there was a sufficient amount of fish to eat. We finished absolutely everything that they served as really, to summarise, it wasn 't bad, it was just lacking in size. Also, for more stars, I think one would hope there would be more flavour as, for example, the cod was served on a bed of oil (very literally with surrounding potatoes (which were plain but delicious, no criticism there . The cost altogether was just over 35 euros including a big bottle of water (not even wine as it was too expensive at 11 euros! and the bread we ordered (not for free in this establishment . We ended up taking the bread in our basket we were still so famished and left dessert for another establishment where the price would be more reasonable for a decent portion size.
Nice little place in Barrio Alto. The food was very good at a reasonable price. If you're looking for a gourmet experience this might not be the place to go but if will fill you up and leave you happy. Can recommend the meat/ chicken with the Portuguese sauce which was very good.
Went there with our 2 year old who took over The show. But the waiters entertained her for half an hour. Too bad the food was just plain
A typical restaurant in the Bairro Alto of Lisbon, but absolutely not a tasca . I ate a cabrito (lamb , but I 'm still trying to digest it, and I went there a week ago. I think that the ingredients used for the various recipes (the menu is very wide and counts a number of meat dishes, fish dishes, and vegetables dishes are inadequate to prepare really delicious dishes: quality is extremely important, in my poor opinion... I ate what I ordered, but just because I was hungry and I had to pay. I 'm not sure to recommend it... also because in the neighbours there are a lot of alternatives (that can be better or worse... . Anyway, staff is kind and the local is clean.
