I've decided to go in and try it since I've always seen a lot of people in there. We've decided to order curry laksa and egg noodle as well as Hokkien Mee. The dishes didn't take long to come out and they were generous with the seafood. The curry laksa also has full of flavors and wasn't very overpowering and the egg noodle itself isn't soggy and it is close to the ones I've had at KL. This is one of the restaurant that cook the Malaysian dishes like the ones I've had at KL and it was definitely enough to share amongst three people
I've had Sri Makhota bookmarked for a while, it was just a matter of persuading Mrs Kan Do to approve the expedition. Finally got a chance for lunch and we weren't disappointed. The interior is well decorated and presentable, but it was busy and seating was a bit cramped. We ordered curry puffs and a nasi lemak (with beef rendang) to share. We were both happy with the nasi lemak and beef rendang. The beef rendang had the ginger and spice that I enjoy with this dish and it was not dry and the rice, ikan bilis and sambal egg was all quite good. I would rate this dish 3.5-4. The curry puffs were also reasonably good. We did not get the sort of zombie curry puffs (bubbled up pastry) that we got at Mama Malaya and at Malaysia Makhanan with Joe K. The filling was adequate but a little dry and I would have preferred some other vegetable (like carrots) other than the spiced potato mash. I would rate the curry puffs a 3-3.5. Overall, this is pretty decent Malaysian food at good prices.
Taking my Mum for a Malaysian lunch at Sri Mahkota, Pinelands Plaza today. At 12.30pm on Saturday, carpark spaces here are at a premium. As I enter the carpark the first space on the left is suddenly vacated so I happily reverse park my car. Still smiling from my stroke of luck we walk 50 metres to the restaurant. This small restaurant is almost full and we manage to secure the last table for two. The friendly staff are run off their feet busy but are helpful and obliging. The owner/manager is a happy woman who impresses me. She works the hardest but is constantly eyeing the tables to make sure customers are appropriately serviced. I feel comfortable in this friendly atmosphere. I ask for a Jasmine tea and it arrives in a mug with a Green Tea teabag:) I order three dishes to share; a Prawn (Hokkien) Noodle Soup, a Seafood Wat Tan Hor Fun (flat rice noodles with an egg white sauce) and Deep Fried Belachan (shrimp paste) Chicken Wings. We notice diners constantly coming and going. Dishes coming out of the kitchen are big serves and look appetising. After 25 minutes our Prawn Noodle Soup is served. It's a big serve of noodles, sliced pork, fish cakes, 2 big Vannemai prawns and Kang Kong greens. We agree that the pork/prawn soup is good but it could be improved with more fried prawn shells in the soup pot. Rating: 4/5. The Seafood Wat Tan Hor Fun is a large serve. But there is no hint of Wok Hei or smokey flavour in the noodles, meaning the wok heat was lacking. Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Deep Fried Chicken Wings arrive and Mum comments that the chicken is perfectly fried and looks delicious. My first bite into the piping hot chicken tells me this is the best dish today. The crust is crunchy crisp while the chicken is hot and juicy with a hint of shrimp paste flavour. Rating: 4.5/5.0 Thank you Ronnielui2003 for recommending the deep fried chicken wings. And yes, I would recommend Sri Mahkota for their Malaysian food.
