Based on the Top Table reviews, I was expecting something a tad swankier. Amber Bar is not that. Imagine a darker, lighly trendier Wetherspoons. However... while it wasn't exactly swish, I simply cannot fault a £4 lunchtime menu chilli con carne that surpassed many swanky venues' versions. Tasty, properly dressed this was Wetherspoons value for much better fare. Not one for client schmoozing but a great budget lunchtime spot in the City.
I booked a table at Amber, and in all fairness to the bar/club/restuarant I did not check their website in advance because it was urgent booking after our restaurant of choice had over booked and cancelled our table at the last minute. Had i realised that Amber was more of a club with the music on in every room to the highest level, so that you are shouting at one another to be heard I would have never booked a table there. The restaurant area in a seperate room designed for dinning had the music on so high I could not hear a single person speak. When I asked for the volume to be reduced it was turned up. However if i were out for a boozy night with some dancing this would be a prefect place and I would go back again.
Good value lunch though odd to be sitting in the nightclub part of the bar for lunch
Good food with good service...a reall lunchtime jem!
