A delightful dinner with excellent food and great service.
Good food and service but rather expensive for what it is.
The evening was completely ruined because we arrived to find the restaurant closed for a private party, despite having booked months ago and been sent a reminder by Open Table the day before. Open Table is a restaurant booking service booking us into one that was closed wasn’t very helpful. The restaurant eventually seated us in the hotel lounge where we were told that the drinks would be free. After the meal (the food was ok, but not great) we found that we were being charged £220 for the ‘free’ drinks. Having got those taken off the bill, the next problem (I know, it’s a long list) was that they couldn’t find a working card machine. Five card machines later we had to run to catch a train, leaving number one daughter on her own to pay the bill for the (disastrous) meal that was supposed to celebrate her and her sister’s birthdays. On the train I looked at the bill and found that (of course) 12 1/2% service was included. Utter disaster from start to finish!
Food was very disappointing. Starter fish cakes were very small, lacklustre in taste and poorly presented. Lamb shoulder for two £56 came with small slices of greasy flatbread and two tiny ramakins of relishes. Monkfish curry was small and tasteless, although the two small pieces of monkfish were cooked perfectly. Service was haphazard and souless. Fantastic venue , decor and building let down by the food and service, which is the whole point of going.
