This Latin American brunch spot in Borough/Southwark is definitely worth a visit when they open for the day.
El Vergel is a charming small (mostly) Chilean deli and café located on Southwark Street. After reading a positive review on the well-written and aesthetically pleasing blog Rocket and Squash, I made sure to add it to my list of places to visit. Luckily, we happened to walk by one day and decided to stop in.
Latin American cafe/lifter in webber street, southwark. the cake is beautiful, although not really the halva I know from old. this is a cake with nuts and dipped in honey. the caffe is good with a large selection of dips, from sandwiches to full meal times, including tortillas and eggs with salsa and chorizo. they also have many vegetarian options. the service is a little random, but if you can let go of anyone impatient they can bring with them, it is a great place and cheap.

I’m reliably informed that the menu is mainly Chilean inspired, which isn’t top of most peoples lists when it comes to breakfast. However, the weekend brunch menu here is extensive and is served from 10-4 on Saturdays and Sundays. It is a little bit ‘out of the way’ and probably felt more so on a Sunday morning than it would do during the week.
