Launceston Place - London

We have been to Launceston Place on many occasions and has been one of our favourite restaurants in London. Would have rated outstanding in every category. Our visit this week was quite disappointing. There was a technical issue with the alarm system but that issue does not influence or bias our comments below. Compared to previous visits, the front desk and service were not as professional. They were clearly less experienced and seemed to lack some training. Whilst recognising the annoying technical issue with the frequent activation of the alarm system was outside restaurant staff’s control, staff response was poor. When the alarm went off, staff seemed to disappear (presumably to try and resolve the issue) and it took some time for staff to circulate around guests and advise there was no fire or problem. After several minutes, staff did circulate, apologise and explain there was a technical issue. Somewhat annoyingly, The technical issue reoccurred on several occasions. There was an early opportunity for staff to make a gesture to guests, eg a glass of champagne or wine, but it wasn’t until guests suggested somewhat later that a gesture would be appropriate, that staff offered a generous gesture. However the early opportunity had been lost. As for the food, the standard of the pork starter and fish main course were excellent comparable to many previous visits but the main course lamb was tough and nowhere near the standard we had become used to. Some of the other dishes were excellent (bread, pre desserts) but others did not reach the standard we had became used to. We will probably visit the restaurant once again to see if our experience was just a blip but if not back to Launceston Place’s normal exceptional standard we will probably choose an alternative. This would be a shame.

It was my friend's birthday dinner. The restaurant and staff went above and beyond to create a beautiful and memorable evening. My friend truly appreciated their efforts. The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. Thank you for making our evening so lovely!
