Open Table, a restaurant booking service, was not very helpful in this situation. The restaurant eventually accommodated us in the hotel lounge, where we were told that drinks were complimentary. However, after our meal (which was decent but not exceptional), we were shocked to discover that we had been charged £220 for the "free" drinks. To make matters worse, the restaurant had trouble finding a working card machine, resulting in a lengthy and frustrating payment process. In the end, we had to rush to catch a train, leaving our daughter to settle the bill for the disastrous meal she and her sister had planned to celebrate their birthdays. Upon reviewing the bill on the train, we also noticed that a 12.5% service charge had been included. Overall, it was a complete catastrophe from start to finish.
The food at this restaurant was extremely underwhelming. The fish cakes for starters were tiny, lacking in flavor, and poorly presented. The lamb shoulder for two, priced at £56, came with small slices of flatbread with fat and two tiny ramekins from Relishes. The monkfish curry was also small and tasteless, although the monkfish itself was cooked perfectly. The service was inconsistent and uninspired. Despite the fantastic atmosphere, décor, and building, ultimately it is the food and service that should be the main draw for diners.
Compared to previous visits, we found the menu to be lackluster. The service was disorganized and slow, and it was frustrating for our group of 10 to be seated at a table meant for 4. This really put a damper on our evening. Overall, we were a bit let down considering we had been eagerly anticipating our visit for some time.
Reservation was then ignored at the reception. The staff didn't know where to sit. poor service, lasted forever to take order, drinks and food came only after 30 minutes and constant persecution, food missing. overall extremely bad experience.
Arrived with friends for her birthday to be told we had no booking, despite having confirmation on my phone. Staff made room for us, which was great. Our waiter was fantastic and despite the very slow service for our food, overall we had a great evening. The building ambience certainly added to that. It was a shame that after asking, nothing arrived for my friends 50th
