Warning: I just found out from the staff that most of the dishes here contain MSG. I have a severe allergy to it, so I could only eat a couple of items on the menu. The food quality was really poor, masked by the use of MSG to make it taste better. I went last night expecting delicious sushi from Oishii, but was sorely disappointed. The sushi was terrible - the rice was heavy and sticky, the rolls fell apart, and the salmon was poorly cut. Even the nigiri was subpar, with thick and uneven salmon pieces over bland rice. I felt like I wasted my money. This place is not worth it.
This restaurant is a spacious local Pan-Asian spot that has been serving customers for a while now, and it is likely one of the top dining options on Streatham High Road. The menu offers a variety of Pan-Asian dishes, including classic favorites similar to Wagamama. In my opinion, the food here is even better than at Wagamama. The Ebi Katsu is consistently tasty, and the Singapore noodles are among my personal favorites. The service is consistently excellent and friendly. Overall, if this restaurant were located closer to where I live, I would consider it my go-to spot for dining out.
I visited Oishii on a Saturday night recently and the place was almost abandoned no good sign. in the past, it was always close to most nights and they needed a reservation at the weekend, but quite clear this is not the case now. what happened? the wise are there. I went to start for the special tempura and it was as good as ever. prawns, sweet potatoes, carrots, aubergine and brokkoli were all deep fried in fresh teig and served with a soy sauce, it is simply delicious. this is one of my favorite oriental dishes all the time and I am glad to say it is as good as it was when I visited oishii a few years ago. most importantly, I had the oishii crispy noodles and here is where...more
OK, I admit, I don't think there are any other sushi restaurants in Streatham. Seriously though, Oishii is good. And not just for sushi they do a nice mixture of Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai. The sushi is fresh and tasty and the noodle dishes are great; service is excellent and the slightly weird American-diner style decor adds to the experience. It's also really good value. Highlights are the sushi and the yaki soba is damn good. It's usually full of cute couples having romantic meals for two. A highlight of Streatham Hill! They also give you sweets at the end of the meal, which is really exciting because some of them are really tasty (like coconut flavour) and some are HORRIBLE (like, cough medicine). Exciting!
