The service was very good and efficient and the staff were all very friendly. A beautiful interior to the hotel entrance and the restaurant itself and the general ambience was very good... not too loud so we could talk easily and it was a very nice touch with the special birthday cake given to my mother at the end for her 80th Birthday on her special day! The hotel is understated and beautiful, the dining area on the top floor exquisite. The food, whilst plentiful and tasty lacks a classic feel to some of the dishes. The Chef has a tendency to put Olive Oil in and on everything, which is strange. Butternut squash soup (previous had and delicious), is now served with the bread already added (not on side), soggy and the oil swirled all over. When pointed out to the server, was told it’s always like this and the point argued. Not believing that we had the same dish a few week prior and it was perfect. A lack of attention to customer as the evening worn on, hard to get attention or dessert menu. Thank goodness we were not in a hurry. Overall, despite the food hitches and staff that need more training, the Clearmont is beautiful and classy and a great stop to meet friends and relax.
