The Cork & Bottle - Leicester Square

We visited this wine bar for drinks with friends. We ordered one bottle of wine. When we left I paid the bill with Apple Pay Five days later I realised I had been charged twice. Also the wine was £40 and the bill (x2) was £45 I called the bar and spoke to the manager. He was very nice but initially said it was impossible for them to charge me twice. He then found the transactions and agreed this had happened. I queried the bill amount and he said we had also ordered two diet cokes. Which was not the case I. Had to speak to my bank and Apple Pay. Who said he should refund me I called him back and he agreed to the refund. Although he still said it wasn’t possible and asked if I had lost my credit card !!! I haven’t and both transactions were Apple wallet so this was irrelevant I hope it goes through ok So while I loved the ambience and great wine make sure you check your bill and pay by card not Apple Pay also check your bank statement I hope this was just a human error but will feel better once my refund is in my account

A lovely lunch at this quirky little basement restaurant. The cheese pie which I believe is their signature dish, is absolutely delicious and very filling. A very pleasant waitress and within easy walking distance of Euston and also the West End. Would recommend.

As we descended via a spiral staircase from the street to the basement via a very modest entrance, one was expecting a small area, but unexpectedly, it opens out into quite a large space. However, very atmospheric with nooks and crannies and very welcoming. Having booked, we were quickly seated and looked after very promptly. Our starters of smoked salmon and Ox cheek arancini were both beautifully presented and a great start. We followed with a crab prawn linguine with chili and a salmon fillet. Again, both dishes were first class with my requested additional chili giving the linguine a terrific kick! We finished with a shared 3 cheese platter that was generous and the cheeses were in excellent condition. We had an excellent bottle of Guigal Condrieu from a very interesting wine list. Service throughout was unobtrusive, but very good. We really loved the whole experience and will definitely be back.

Perfect from the moment we set foot in the establishment. Great service, fantastic food and a lovely wine selection. We will be using this as our pre-theatre restaurant on every visit in future. Hidden Gem

Fabulous lunch, delicious food, amazing wine recommendations and the absolute star of our visit was Junior, the manager. He was so knowledgeable, so much fun and we enjoyed ourselves so much we rebooked to go back in the evening after our theater visit. Thank you so much for an amazing time
