Lennys Pizza - Long Island City

Great flavor! The taste has a nostalgic similarity to the old pizzerias in the Bronx—an experience I haven't come across in a long time. Just being reminded of that flavor is impressive in itself. To give you an idea of how they stack up against the competition, I have a Domino's and a Papa John's nearby, but I choose this pizza over both of them. I’d rate it as number one, with Papa John's in second place and Domino's last. To be honest, I've never really liked Domino's; it’s one of the worst pizzas I've had. The only time I've enjoyed a Domino's pizza was while traveling abroad—go figure! They also offer a variety of other options like chicken and pepperoni rolls, and they provide home delivery as well.

The pizza here is quite good, but the service leaves much to be desired. The staff taking orders often forget things, don’t hear requests, or simply don’t seem to care, which results in lengthy waits for your food. On my last visit, I ordered two plain slices, a beef patty, and a dessert but ended up waiting 20 minutes. The staff member who took my order completely forgot to go downstairs to fetch my dessert while I was waiting, leaving my food cold. It’s unfortunate because the pizza is decent and reasonably priced, but I’ll probably avoid this place unless I’m really craving pizza.

Be sure to check your receipt! The owner has been taking advantage of the neighborhood by adding a $0.57 charge, even when paying with cash. This isn't a one-time occurrence; the staff has been doing this to many customers for months. While it may not seem like a significant amount, it quickly adds up. For example, if 100 customers are charged $0.57 each, that's $57 a day, or $1,710 a month. It really adds up. Shame on both the owner and the staff for stealing from their customers.

They have good weekday specials and open-air seating. They also have well sized and well made calzones.
